Start 2.0.5.4

System Crashing

3 Times I've tried installing this software and it wants the upgrade to V 2.0.5.4, so I go ahead.

Guaranteed after less than an hour, complete freezing of OS.  I know it's this crappy software, as each time I pull the plug to reboot and get access to my PC again, I uninstall it and everything works as normal for days.

The minute I try again and install - yep, the bloody thing starts screwing up my system again.

Win 11 Pro

23H2 (22631.3007)

So will not be installing it again until it's fixed, or may try an earlier version if I still have the will to live.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

So your computer deadlocks itself?

Does the mouse continue to work in this situation or the keyboard capslock / numlock buttons?

The mouse works, and intermittently I can press the start menu icon, but if I can get to the shutdown icon after a few attempts of clicking, and select restart, the screen goes blank and nothing happens.  Then I can't switch windows or do anything.

I can sometimes switch open to programmes, but mostly can't actually get any response from the mouse or keyboard when I can access them, so can't do anything.  Behaviour is random, but I know immediately it's going to need a mains plug pull.  CTL ALT DEL sometimes works, but I can't then do anything.

When it is restarted (switching off at mains) and restarts - the same thing will happen within an hour of use.  After the latest uninstall of Start11 tonight, I have been using the system fine for hours without incident and without Start 11.

So 3-4 times this has happened, with Start 11 installed and each time my system is affected shortly afterwards.

Remove it and everything works perfectly as it is now without it.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

So which one?  AS you can see very confusing as to what the differences are:

Start11 V1

Start11 V2 (Beta)  This is what it keeps asking me to upgrade to when I download the first version and causing the issues.

I've run all the purge gubbins as requested, but I did a pretty good job or removing everything manually each time it crashed my system.  So I'm now about to install again and will take a registry backup now before as it's likely to crash again within the hour I suspect.....

Update:  I just used the Start11 V2_Setup_sd.exe and then installed the upgrade it wanted.  Now we'll see how long it lasts.

Update:

So haven't had much time yesterday of use, but last night, the same thing happened again.  Browser froze, then subsequently every other thing i tried to do froze or was non-responsive.  Went to restart (mouse and keyboard working) and as soon as I clicked restart, black screen as usual came up but no restart, then I couldn't task switch or do anything - so plug out again.

I'm now going to uninstall Start 11 again as this isn't doing my system any good, but I am going to try reinstalling it again with the version I had before the latest version it nags me to upgrade to after installing it.  I won't be installing the Beta or upgrade version 2.0.5.4 and see what happens after that.

Of course, before doing this, I will again purge all the files as per the last link.

I hope this isn't going to affect any activation / reactivation limits whilst all this palaver is going on given the amount of reinstalls I'm having to do.

Update: 21/02/2024:  Have now purged and reinstalled version Start11 2.03 and will give this a test run, after disabling automatic updates.

Without wanting to jinx anything, I've been using my system extensively for 9 hours non-stop with version Start11 V2 2.03 installed and so far no crashes or freezes.  If this continues, there must be something in Version 2.0.5.4 that is causing a problem.

I'm still on 2.03 without issue since yesterday.  I've been working all day today and still no crashes.

I may try the 2.06.2 beta shortly for R&D purposes and I'll let you know what happens, but I'm not going to cleanboot, as there's nothing wrong with my system as highlighted every time I revert back to the older Start11 version everything works perfectly - I keep a tight system with no crap on.  It's the 2.0.5.4 version that is crashing every time.

There is a 2.06.beta showing up in downloads, so assume it has been updated again.  I will try this......

So an update:  a couple of days using 2.06.3 and no crashing issues.  So whatever the previous causes were for the system crashing, they were very likely related to 2.0.5.4 release.

That's great news.
