Groupy 1.5 and New MS Teams

Groupy does not group Teams chats automatically in New MS Teams, while it did in the MS Teams Classic

Dear support team,

Groupy 1.5 did group Teams chats in Teams Classic automatically, but does not do that automatically in the New Teams app. "Automatically group all 'ms-teams.exe' windows together" is set, but does not help. Manually grouping the windows works fine.

Do you have any idea, which settings to change, so Groupy groups New Teams chats automatically?

Thanks for your support.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, which version is the "New MS Teams"? How do one get that version to test out.

Thank you.

Hello Basj,

thanks for your quick reply. The New Teams replaces the current Teams version. The roll-out has started in October and currently someone can choose to stay with the classic version till March, but after March everyone will be put to the new version. Below link from the Microsoft site shows the old and the new version and maybe you find a way to test the Groupy behavior with the new Teams on your machine.

Please let me know, if you need further input.

Thanks,

SaKiss

Unfortunately, for some odd reason, I don't have "New Teams" button on my Team Classics to turn on. I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

If you install the trial for Groupy 2, does it then work?

Does installing Groupy 2 mean uninstalling Groupy 1.5? Can I turn back to Groupy 1.5 easily afterwards?

Yes, you should able to uninstall Groupy v2 reboot, and reinstall v1 reboot again. Everything should return back to your Groupy v1.

As per my post yesterday, installing Groupy 2 did not bring the deserved results. Any other ideas to help me out here? Thanks.

I gather what you mean are pop-out chats from a single instance of Teams, not that you have multiple instances of Teams running (if that is even possible), yes?

Yes, correct. Under Teams Classic these would open as a new tab with the help of Groupy. In the New Teams they would open in a new window.

New Teams is not showing them as unique windows looks to be the issue.

I have logged it internally.

Dear Basj,

could anyone from your side please work on this issue? I have opened this thread about 1.5 months ago and still no sufficient answer on what is the status and if I can count on a solution sooner or later.

Thanks,

SaKiss

This has been addressed for an upcoming Groupy 2 update which hopefully will go out next week.

Dear Neil, does that mean there will be no fix for Groupy 1.5?

Today I got an update from Groupy 1.5 to Groupy 1.51, the MS Teams issue is still not fixed. It is already two months now that I have asked for support and if you look back in this thread, the answers get poorer and poorer...

The issue was addressed for Groupy 2 users in 2.15 beta.

Groupy 1 had an update 1.51 with changes for this BUT not all the changes can be included due to differences in design.  I would recommend you uninstall Groupy 1.51, REBOOT and reinstall as it may be files were not replaced correctly.

You have had multiple replies from 2 Stardock support personnel, myself included, and a response and fix from the lead developer, SaKiss.

If this is not satisfactory, tell me where we have failed and how we can do better.

Dear Sean,

thanks for coming back to me. I will mention a few points and would ask you to comment on them with agreement or disagreement.

  • I started this thread on 1/3/2024 and my issue is not resolved yet. If it is, please let me know.
  • I have been pointed to solutions that were no solutions (I have been asked to install Groupy 2, which was not capable of handling MS Teams the New version either)
  • I had to ask back several times to get a status on if my issue is resolved (after waiting for at least 10 days each time before asking again). I never got a reply if my issue will be resolved within Groupy 1.5, so I can decide if I buy Groupy 2 just for this issue.
  • An update for Groupy 1.5 came out, but no fix for the MS Teams issue. I would have understood if there was only a fix on Groupy 2, because no one is working on Groupy 1.5 anymore. But if an update on Groupy 1.5 is provided, I would expect that also a fix on the MS Teams issue is included. If not, just tell me.
  • I still do not know, if Groupy 2 now works with MS Teams correctly. (and no, I don't want to install Groupy 2 every 1-2 weeks, to check, if it is working now)

Above items are part of excellent service. If you disagree with any, please let me know.

You have an excellent product, why should service be below excellent.

The only thing that I have to blame myself for is that I have overread reply #21. It was timewise very close to #22, so I only saw #22, but this is no excuse. Sorry for that.

Quoting sdrohan, reply 24

End of sdrohan's quote

The comments have not been "made", I needed to "pull" them each time and ask every few weeks to get an update. Morevoer, before posting reply #20, I installed 1.51 (through the app itself, as I cannot find a download on the website for Groupy 1 anymore), tested and the issue persisted. Only afterwards I posted #20. From where should I know that I have to uninstall Groupy 1.5, reboot and then install Groupy 1.51? So blaming me for not installing and testing is not justified from my point of view. I am just upset that I have been asked to install Groupy 2 for testing, while at that time Groupy 2 was not capable of the New MS Teams window grouping either.

In order to solve my issue, which is still not solved by the way...Could you please upload somewhere the Groupy 1.51 exe file, so I can uninstall Groupy 1.5, reboot and install directly 1.51 (which according to Neil Banfield might solve my issue)? Otherwise I will have to install 1.5 and then let the app upgrade to 1.51, which might not be the solution according to Neil Banfield again.

Thanks,

SaKiss
