IconPackager encryption

Whoa, has anyone seen the new IconPackager changelog? Kinda scary. Theme encryption? I expect this is a result of the lawsuit against Brad from StyleXP. Any more information?

I tried to read the version update history file from SDC, but it wouldn't load.

I preview IP files by opening them in WinRAR, because the IP format is basically a ZIP file without the Z. With the encryption, it just makes life slightly less convenient.

If werewolf thinks it's worth it, I'll update anyway.

Just curious though...Is this a result of the StyleXP lawsuit?

Theme files are now encrypted on save

Since this is a beta version, will iconpackages created with it work with older versions of IconPackager? Also, to protect all the 393 iconpackages already out there, won't the authors have to re-package them through this version?

Xendre64...I am honored

Essencay?: I don't have it from the horses mouth, but I'd be willing to bet you're spot on this one.

People sometimes get confued about the formats.

Icon packaeges -- .IP files are not protected. They are just zip files renamed.

Inside though is another file -- .iptheme. That is...was..a text file. But unscrupulous companies have been trying to make a fast buck off our work so we're encrypting this file so that only IconPackager can apply them.

It will still work on existing .iptheme files of course. But eventually they'll migrate to this format, especially since IP 2.5 has a killer feature - icon redundancy elimination. It can shrink the size of a package by multiple MEGAbytes.
