Groupy vs Groupy2

I have the Groupy license, but when I ran it last time it asked me to update and downloaded Groupy2, the original product number does not work in this new version. Do I have to buy a new license for Groupy2? What is the difference between one version and another?
The Groupy installer prompted to get Groupy 2? That doesn't sound right to me so that might need some investigation.
Groupy 2 does indeed need a new key. In terms of new features the big ones are improved support for Windows 11, new tab looks, new rules, ability to save tabs in ms edge/chrome as part of a group, tab colouring options etc.
There is nothing in the Groupy1 installer that should prompt you for G2... Make sure you get G1 from your account page:

And use its key for it.

I couldn't find the original version that I downloaded when I bought it and I downloaded the latest version from their website, but when I put in the product key it says that it is not correct

This is correct. Groupy 2 is an upgrade to Groupy 1.
You can download your original v1 from your downloads page on the Stardock store download site.
