How do I prevent "automatic" grouping newly opened windows

I create groups of related documents as "working" groups and save them so I can open all those documents together as a project.
I LOCK the group believing that prevents any newly opened window will remain outside the LOCKed group, but it does not work that way.
Newly opened window are automatically sucked int my "working" group and I have to UNLOCK the group to move them out. there seems to be no documentation clearly covering this. I don't remember this behavior in Groupy "1".
What am I missing and how can I "fix" this?
