DogPile

At turn 330 or so, despite my constant efforts to help others, and currently having a faction score number three, and being at war with the leader, suddenly the entire galaxy declares war.   Is this a standard mechanic?  I have no idea whether I can win vs this, but we shall see.

Did you just capture an enemy capital? There's a cultural trait the AI might have that causes all players to declare war on you in that case.

That may be.   I was attacking Toria, which is their capital.  Well, if taking a capital causes a dogpile, that is something a player might be interested in knowing!   Of course knowing whether it might be or whether it will in a particular instance would be useful also.

Yes I checked and Toria just fell to my control.   Of course a lot of my trade routes have disappeared as well, fortunately I had many trade routes to minor factions.   Probably those trade routes will be plundered shortly.  So I just need to go back and don't siege Toria.

It seems a little ridiculous though.  All the diplomatic effort I have been making is just swept into the wastebasket.  Hmm, I noticed that one faction didn't DOW - the one I was allied with.   Perhaps I should scoop up some more allies also.

I am tentatively proceeding.   I am alarmed that at some point someone will snap their fingers and presto game over.   It's like Dr.  Strangelove, re doomsday:  "why didn't you tell the world?"  This type of mechanic is terrible even if you know about it, imo.

Many thanks, Frogboy!

(ADDED LATER)  Number of times I have thanked stardock...too many to count.   Number of times I've thanked other game companies....zero.
