Once my fences are locked I cannot unlock them to make any changes etc.

It won't create new Fences now!!!

I have been using fences for quite some time, from version 3 onward, I have never had any problems until now. Once I have made a fence group I always set them at 20% transparency and then lock them so I don't move them or edit them. But now I have found that I cannot unlock the fences to edit them, I right click the fence and try to un-tick the lock fences but they just won't unlock. I have reinstalled the software several times, ran the software with and without administration rights and still cannot unlock the fences at all. This is such a simple issue that I have never had and find it so frustrating, a search on google does not seem to list this issue so I am at a loss as to when this issue started because I only unlock them to make changes but cannot do anything when they are locked.

I have even been looking for software that I could use instead of fences, but to be honest I've not found anything close to it. Is there a possible way to completely remove all traces of Fences to see if that changes it back to fully work again, also I cannot even create new fences as that option fails too and I don't really want to create new fences every time I lock them and to again be honest I don't want to interfere with my Start11 which runs perfectly. As a final thought, I run a tiny program called Shell which changes windows 11's stupid context menu, I don't know many people who do like it, all it does is make every option 3 steps away when it normally took 2 steps away in windows 10.

Any useful advice on these issues would be appreciated, it's driving me nuts.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. And, possibly there compatibility issue with that "Shell" program which change Win11 Context menu. Can't you disable it and see if the lock/unlock Fences work when it disabled?

Thanks

Just as expected, it was Nilesoft.org software, Shell which was the issue, so sad to uninstall this great little software as it made the Windows 11 context menu actually usable, but I suppose that Fences must take more priority of the Shell extension so now I know. Just need to find something that changes the unusable Windows 11 context menu without effecting the Shell and/or Fences. Thanks Basj for your help, you were spot on with the issue and my Fences work's perfectly again.

You could try using a free tweaking program to change the context menu to the old way. There are some available on websites like Major Geeks and Winaero. These programs make a change to the registry so might not interfere with your Fences like a running software. I hope you find a solution to your problem.

Edit:  I have tried both of those tweak programs and went to my desktop and tested my fences. I was able to lock and unlock the fences. You can go further and gain some control over what is displayed in the context menu if you want. Softpedia offers some choices here: Context Menu     One fo those might be that same software that is giving you the problems though...
