Start11: Taskbar stay on Top of "Windowed Fullscreen" applications and Blank/Black Icons of some Apps

Error 1:
As you can see in the Video below, the Taskbar "stays" in Foreground when starting or switching to an Application that runs in a "Windowed Fullscreen" Mode.
This error only applies to the Start11 Taskbar and does not happen with the original Windows Taskbar or if the Start11 Taskbar is disabled in the Settings.

In this case, I tested it with World of Warcraft:

Any Alt+Tab to another window or Win+E and then "click" back to World of Warcraft (in this case) by the Taskbar Icon will cause this error.

I've added "NoahBoard" to see my Mouse/Keyboard actions!

Error 2:
Also, you can see there are some Blank/Black Icons of Applications (OBSStudio and NoahBoard in this case)
This will not happen with the "original" Windows 11 Taskbar.

System:
Start11 Version tested: 1.44 and 1.45
Window 11 Professional Version 22H2 (Build 22621.1778)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, please try uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Redownload and reinstall Start11 V1.45, reboot again after installation finished. Retest and report back.

Thanks

No changes!

Taskbar Still stays on Top in World of Warcraft until I click the Taskbar and then the Game AGAIN.
This is very annoying!

Also, the Black Icons are still there, but not every Application!
If I start NoahBoard.exe by the executable DIRECTLY the Icon Appears correctly...
But if I start it from a Link-File (*.lnk) the Icon does not appear, the same goes for OBS Studio!

But for example, the Icon of "WizTree" and many other Applications are shown correctly in both ways, directly from the Executable and also from a Link-File?! 😖

I can not figure out what causes that error...

I can not reproduce your issue with some game I have but need to check, its only happen with "Windowed full screen"? Not happening on "Actual Full screen"?

Weird Question... 🤣

Of course, it only can happen on any "NON Exclusive Fullscreen Mode" because with any "exclusive Fullscreen Application" there is just "the Application exclusively" and gets hidden on leaving this Application -> that's where the name "exclusive" comes from 😉

That means I can not "switch" to another running Application without "leaving" the "exclusive Fullscreen Application" and this in turn makes it impossible for the Taskbar to "Stay on Top" ^^

Tested now with the following Games, where the Bug occurred to me
(and of course, every one of them runs a non-exclusive Borderless Window Mode!)

  • World of Warcraft
  • V Rising
  • Conan Exiles
  • Valheim
  • Warframe
  • Path of Exile

New Video, where I switch between Path of Exile and Warframe:

I can also make a Video with the "Default" Taskbar where you can see this is not happening, but I think this should not be needed.

Updated to Start11 v1.46 now and Windows to Version 22H2 (Build 22621.1928).

Still same error.
Always need to "click" the taskbar first and then the "Game" (or other non-Exclusive Fullscreen Appliation) to prevent the Taskbar STAY on top of everything.

Does it work the way you expect it to without Start11 installed?

I don't know if i works without Start11 installed but i know it works when the Start11 Taskbar is disabled, so i guess it also will work without Start11 as of the "original" Taskbar does not have this problem, even is Start11 is installed.

I'm also having this same issue, and have been for months. Was this ever resolved? I've followed all the steps in the thread and have not had any success.

The OP has a collection of software (OBS studio, etc), conditions (fullscreen, Start11 Enhanced taskbar, seemingly - but not stated - taskbar auto-hide, etc), and games.  What is the 'same' for you,  Zabbu8802?

The issue is the taskbar staying above any application that is in (non-exclusive) fullscreen. Games, browsers, software, it doesn't really matter. It's always on top unless I click the taskbar then click back to whatever application I'm using. I do not have auto-hide enabled.

Somehow this was lost on me but the OP reported the issue with Start11 v1.   Are you able to reproduce any of this with Start11 v2?
