Selling Beta versions

Just a general question.

 

How is it that the terms and conditions of all your beta programs come with a warning clearly stating you do not support beta versions yet stardock launches new versions of  apps in beta mode and charge for it?  your terms state these apps are not supported?

 

Didn't come here to fight or argue about this, this is just a general question.

Where exactly is that stated? Of course Stardock have extensive support for their own software in the beta phase.

What is communicated however, is that Stardock does not support insider/beta/development builds of Windows or any other third party app/software that fall into that category.

Its more a formality than anything else and for clearly understandable reasons.  As you surely have seen from any sold beta (the initial release variety that Groupy 2 is now), there is a flurry of 'support' provided in the feedback thread.

I have actually seen Stardock do a lot of work towards supporting insider builds of Windows 11. A lot of the fixes that comes with later releases of products do have notes that fixes the functionality of an insider build.

The reason they state that they do not support insider builds is for 2 reasons. One Windows does not announce what they release on these builds ahead of time and therefore breaks all kinds of functionality without warning to third party software companies. And 2, functionality of released versions of products always takes priority.

Therefore, Stardock does actually support insider builds to a degree but has to add a disclaimer that they do not so people don't get upset that their stuff isn't working yet.

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

 

Not looking to start an argument here just making sure if I PAY FOR A PRODUCT i got the correct support.  in this case i wont use stardock beta's because these come with UNOFFICIAL support.

The issue is if or when you use any software with Microsoft's alpha/beta program of OS releases.  In many cases Stardock's software will not address problems raised by early release OS versions as they are in constant change.

When Stardock releases its software as a Beta then as with all Beta software you can expect issues to arise.  That is the very meaning of the terms 'alpha/beta'.  If you don't wish to be woring at the sharp edge of relative uncertainty....always stay with 'full' releases of both any software AND any OS for that software....;)
