Version 1.41: Taskbar Unstable, Breaks When External Monitors are Plugged In

I updated Start11 this morning, and now it's very unstable. Whenever my external monitors turn on (either when first connected, or after coming back from computer going to sleep), the taskbar breaks visually. I have to disable the "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar" toggle, restart Explorer, and then toggle it on again:

I am on Win11, most up to date non-insider. I have a laptop with two external monitors.

Did you update to 1.41 Start11 or 1.42 beta?

I am on 1.41. Not sure how to update to beta, but I know it doesn't fix it, because I've seen it reported on the 1.42 beta thread by someone else.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Do try the 1.42 beta use the link below for instruction on how to get it. https://forums.stardock.com/517565

First, uninstall Start11 from your system. Reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Install the V1.42 Beta. Reboot again. Retest and report back.

I am having similar issues on my laptop after disconnecting external monitors, with parts of the taskbar getting vertically shifted (resulting in the system clock and certain icons not fully displaying) when using Start 11 version 1.41.

I understand there is a newer beta version that may fix the issue.  I have purchased Start 11 but not Object Desktop.

How do I get the beta version you allude to?

So you're saying the way to update from 1.41 to 1.42 or later is either A, be a paying Object Desktop member or B, go to https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products ?
I have not paid for Object Desktop.  When I go to the link above I don't see anything about 1.42.  Please clarify.
Thank you.

I would imagine the 1.43 beta update will move to release build early this week and get automatically pushed to your computer.

Look like your Start11 is on another account. If you have issue finding it. Please raise support ticket using the link below, use the product not receive option. Include all information details. Remember to record down the ticket number for future reference if needed. Do not raise multiple ticket, that will make your ticket back to the end of the line. Send once and wait. Ticket will be answer by the order they send in.

I am using Start 11 version 1.44 (with Windows 11 Home / 22H2 Build 22621.1635) and there are still similar bugs as before.

Notably, when switching back and forth between having external monitors plugged in or not:

1. The taskbar becomes uneven (see pic).

2. Hovering over taskbar icons no longer produces the correct preview/popup (generally no preview is shown when monitors are all unplugged).

All of above seem to fix upon rebooting.  I had understood that 1.43 had fixes but I'm on 1.44 and issues persist.

Looking at Start11 1.44 release feedback thread the changelog mentioned https://forums.stardock.com/518586/get;3887374

I would suggest try this steps. Uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after (important). Download Start11 V1.44 again. Install it. Reboot again. Retest it and report back.

Hello Basj / Stardock Support:

I uninstalled Start11 and Object Desktop 4.01 and rebooted.  Then I reinstalled Start11 only.  There were still problems (uneven taskbar and broken taskbar hover previews, which would show up after 2-3 times of disconnecting/connecting to dock with external monitors).  I then uninstalled Start11 again, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted and the same thing happened.  I have now uninstalled and reinstalled Start11 1.44 at least 3 times.  After a few times of disconnecting/reconnecting the external monitors the same behavior will appear.  Specifically:

- On my laptop screen alone, the taskbar is uneven (see most recent pic below), and hovering over taskbar icons does not produce any previews.

- With dual external monitors connected the taskbar appears straight, but hovering over taskbar icons is erratic (e.g., previews appear only on one monitor).

Basically, Start11 works ok but only right after a reboot of the laptop.  The problems appears after connecting/disconnecting to the dock with external monitors a few times, and this happens consistently.

When the issue appear, does the issue go away if you just restart Explorer.exe?

Yes, the issue goes away (temporarily) if I manually restart Explorer.exe.  However it comes back after plugging/unplugging to the dock with external monitors a couple times.

No.  I do not wish to try beta versions.  It was too much trouble last time.  I simply want to know if your team is aware of this apparent bug and/or working on a fix.

Start11 1.45

  • This fixes 6309 (Right-click of sound on TB opens up on 2nd monitor).

  • Fixes taskbar issue when switching primary monitor by unplugging monitors.

Ok, great.  In that case I'll wait until 1.45 is rolled out to all Start11 users.  Thank you, and it's great your team is quickly responding to user feedback.
