Confused about activations

per machine or per product

Hello,

I'm confused about the activations....I bought an ObjectDesktop license, and it seemed like this would be for 5 activated computers. I only have 2 I might want to use it on, but when I register each component, it's using an activation. So it looks like I can only have 5 activated pieces of software- it doesn't look like I can event use the entire suite on a single machine at a time?

I did do individual downloads, should I have not done that? I put the ObjectDesktop Manager on after, and it seems like I can de-register software from the license screen and it still works fine with the manager, is that what I should be doing to install the software? It's kinda confusing though- the manager/software managed by it(Fences in this case) doesn't appear on the license screen at all so I'm super confused as to what is going on.

Thank you!

You ran into a table that doesn't render your activations very well.

For each program in Object Desktop you have 5 activations after purchasing and before installing on any computer.

If you install all the programs included in OD on both your computers just one time, you've used 2 activations.

Clearer, I hope. :)

As for the Object Desktop Manager app...it needs updating. It would be best if you check software version numbers in each program against version number available in your account: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Then under Object Desktop>View Individual  Downloads.

Hope that helps, too.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I have to take it on faith, you're right about it not rendering it well, because the table doesn't present the state as you are describing it at all. These activations are all on a single machine so far. I haven't even tried the other computer because I was afraid I was going to lock my ability to install and register anything else.

As for updating, the sources need updating if I need updating. I literally did all this last night, it's barely been 12 hours since I downloaded and installed. I think the 5 computer thing isn't available anymore, which might be why you think that, but I haven't been using any of the tools for some time, I just decided to try a few of them again last night, so everything is fresh, and then the licensing table popped up and led me to the confused state, since it literally says "3 of 5" at the top!

Thanks!

Ohhhh....I think I misunderstood what you were saying...you don't mean *I* need to update my installation, but the app itself is what needs an overhaul? The vagaries of the English language! :D

So I was unclear as well, asking about the method I should use- because of the table...it shouldn't matter if I use the OD manager or use individual app dl to install...it just looks like it ends up different?

Thanks!

Then, you can download from there (View Individual Downloads page), or, use the 'check for updates' in whichever program you're checking its need to be updated. The update isn't counted as an activation.

You think it's better to just use the individual downloads then use the manager then, presumably because the Manager itself needs work? It's nothing in particular to do with he activations though, right?

Interestingly, Start11 says it's up to date, matches versions on the site, but OD Manager wants to update it.

Yes, yes, and that's the correct (for the present) reason.

EXACT same scenario here that I was just about to post.  What was the answer?

Mine is at 4 of 5 and I also did the individual download/install from my original order because OD has expired and presumably will only download the latest version and thus only offered "buy".

Even if I install individual apps outside of OD, does my original OD license provide for 5 activations of each product?  Meaning that the "4 of 5" statement in my account is just inaccurate.

I believe, the answer is "Yes" and "yes".

I am having this same problem too but have just had to reactivated Start 11 on a machine that I am also running Fences 4 on. I only ever get these reactivation notifications when I have more than 5 current activations showing against my account and it seems that even though I own Object dock adding Start 11 to this machine has taken me over the 5 activation limit?

To complicate things a little more I have installed Windows 11 3 times on this machine as i like to have seperate installs for general use, work use and gaming, the machine has the same name in each installation so I would have thought that as I am allowed to activate on up to 5 machines that this should count as only one machine but it is definitely affecting my 5 activation limit. So should same machine same OS only count as 1 machine? To me it shouldn't make any difference that I boot into a seperate installations of Windows 11 just because I like to set the machine up for different activities as I don't want work software starting up when I am wanting to do some gaming for example.

I would really love to get this sorted as it is driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not really sure on your issue, but, you can review this guide to review and manage your activation: https://forums.stardock.com/486311/accounts-and-activation-support-faq#reviewactivations.

From there you can review how many of those activation are activated on which system.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Basj.

I have followed the link you provided. One thing I picked up that I wasn't aware of is Object Dock manager. If I installed Fences and Start 11 through the manager is it possible that it only gets seen as one activation but when they are installed individually as I have done they are seen as separate activations? I might do some more testing and see if I can figure out exactly what is taking me over the 5 activation limit.

First, its Object Desktop Manager not Object Dock Manager. Did you purchase Fences 4 and Start11 individually before you purchased Object Desktop manager package? If that is a yes, than For Fences 4 and Start11 you should have different set of keys for it. And depend on which stand alone Fences 4 or Start11 pack you purchase you will have single or multi-activation assigned to it. These keys are different keys from your Object Desktop keys.

Hope that make it more clear for you.

Thanks again Basj.

No I didn't purchase either Fences 4 or Start 11 individually it is just that I installed them without using Object Desktop manager and thought that perhaps that may have made a difference.

I generally only use Fences but recently thought that I would give Start 11 a try and it surprised me that I am suddenly over the 5 activations again when I installed it on a machine that had Fences on it already. Anyway I think that I might cancel all my activations and re-activate keeping track of exactly what I do.

In thatcase, you only have 5 activation for each of those software. Yes, I too do the activation management when there is too much activation done on my systems.
