Start11 Systray Icon Crowding

We have started this thread to collect data for clients that may still have systray icon crowding while using Start11:

What we need from you going forward to attempt to resolve it:

A zip file containing:

Upload the zip to the cloud drive service or your choice (Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox, etc).  Create a shared link to it and Private Message it to me:

We will review them and at some point, we may reach out to you for more information or have builds for you to try.

Thanks for your patience with this issue and any help you can provide to resolve it.

Ok, I also sent mine... I included all the Stardock registry key, since I also have Fences installed (maybe could interfere).

Thanks,

sent mine, and also tried these 2 things:

sfc /scannow (had nothing to lose... did correct some files)

DDU (uninstalled NVIDIA drivers clean , update to latest)

so far no issue... ill keep you guys updated.

I will review them all, see if we can find patterns, and present our findings to the smart people.

Thank you all for your time and effort.

I already tried "sfc /scannow" some days ago. Errors were also found and fixed. But didn't fix it.

@sdrohan
I'm using Citrix Workspace App to connect from my personal PC to a virtual PC on my workplace. When started, the issue appears more often. Maybe it's because of sharing the microphone and the location there ... Don't know.

EDIT: Just updated Citrix Workplace App to the latest version 2302. Let's hope it fixes the issue ...

EDIT2: Nope, didn't fix it ...

Hi all,

Just throwing an update out there, not much of an update TBH. I have been looking for common themes between the 5 of you for patterns.

You are all running Win11 Pro and appear to have NVIDIA graphics, no common program's or S11 settings that I can see so far.

Are any of you using the NVIDIA Surround feature?

If you turn on more system try icons to be on, does this have any effect on the issue for you?

Sent a link to both files, same issue, only 3 icons being shown are Touch Keyboard, Network, and Sound, all Windows System Icons, and the issue seems intermittent.

Crowding only occurs on the icon closest to the ^ (expand systray arrow) which is always the keyboard icon being crowded/duplicated.

Changing the taskbar icon arrangement does not prevent the issue from occurring, nor does changing to or from a custom start icon.

This issue exists on the 4 systems I currently run the Steam version of Start11 on, and has been an issue since day 1.

In addition to Start11, I also use a paid Steam version of Stardock Fences on all 4 machines. I have also exported the Fences registry export as well.

any redraw/icon change will fix the issue temporary....

but it comes back after...

I now have swapped to an Nvidia card to see if I can recreate, does anyone have a use case that will always trip the issue or it seeming at random?

Try locking and unlocking the computer, as well as sleep mode? Also try the screen blanking function?
Restarting explorer fixes it, but then that leads to another bug involving dual monitors with the task bar on top of the screen.

For the users with this issue, when this happens, it is staying that way until action is taken or is it that way for a few seconds and then corrects itself?

Example of my experience linked: https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2023-02-14_16-13-13tpscroggins.mp4

Is that representative of what you are seeing - that you can see it happen it within a few seconds, it corrects itself.  If that is not your experience, tell us how it's not (for example, does correct itself - does not go away on its own or last way longer)

I enabled all the icons in the taskbar.

Every day I have to start Citrix Workspace App to connect to my job environment in Home Office. When using Teams there, the issue appears asap.

It appears and disappears. Sometimes it takes some time. But I don't do anything to get this fixed.

Ok, so you observe it correcting itself, yes?

Also, quantify:

'Sometimes it takes some time. '

How long is 'some time' in seconds.

Hi, for few days after I got the clock problem on 1.39 I put more focus on the behavior of my start11. The systray crowding for me happens 100% of times when the microphone is activated and in other occasions but it is sure when the microphone icon appear. It's just an idea, could it be that this happens when system temp icons are showed? Like microphone or from previous posts, the keyboard on screen, the removal of drive or the language?

What needs to be known (still):

-Does it stay that way, the crowded icons... or no, once seen, it corrects itself?

-If it corrects itself, how long does that correction take.  Is it he few seconds shown in Paul's video, shorter, or longer?  We want to know the times.

No, for me it is persistent, for the microphone one as long as the icon is showed I have the overlapping. When the mic is turned off, like at the end of a call, the icons will be readjusted properly. In case I have the overcrowding caused by something else, even locking the system and reenter doesn't refresh the icons when happening. The issue happening for few seconds, let's say between 5 seconds and a minute, never occurred to both of my systems that use start11.

Please post a shared link to a video of this happening.

Also, we would very much would like information noted in the 1st post of this thread.

Just got the issue today and kept an eye on the behavior.

The issue appeared after connecting to my office environment via Citrix Workspace App. Here I started all the tools I needed, e.g. MS Teams.

15 minutes later, the issue was still there ...

So I shut down MS Teams in my Citrix environment, and it was fixed.

After starting MS Teams again, the issue is gone now.

Till now my systray looks good, although I'm still working in the Citrix environment.

Still looks good here. Just took part on a teams meeting and there were no issues with the icons.
