Hello,

Actually this is already known and posted in the FAQ question here: https://forums.stardock.com/486023/windowblinds-support-faq#chromeskin and if you click on the "Learn more about skinning.." refer screenshot below..you will be taken to the same page. However, we appreciate your input.

None of this works to skin chrome.  When I try that shortcut it says the path doesn't exist but it does so I have no idea how to skin chrome.

The OP got it wrong.

The shortcut should be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar

Strange, the link work for me, just tested it.

Chrome does not skin in Windows 10

Google has changed the way Windows 10 title bars are skinned in Chrome. With that, certain attributes must be added to the target of any shortcut to Chrome.

The easiest method would be to download this shortcut, unzip it, and run it.  Please make sure Chrome is not running at all when you do (check task manager to ensure it is not).  Also note that this link only works if you installed Chrome in its default location:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/Google%20Chrome.zip

That then would be the shortcut you use to open Chrome each time.

What was done to that link was adding the following attributes (bolder here to illustrate) to the target:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar

Cut and paste it here for you.

I found the problem: the shortcut wants to go to program files 86 instead of just program files.  So how do I fix it since my chrome is located in program files without the 86.

So I removed the 86 part in that shortcut and it opened chrome but it wasn't skinned.

It is the default location since it is 64 bit chrome.  Evidently the link only works for 32 bit chrome.

Hello,

Create a shortcut to chrome.

Edit it to add this, don't forget the space :  --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar

For me with chrome 108.0.5359.125 (Build officiel) (64 bits)

"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar

On the other hand if you open a link from a pdf document for example, chrome will not be skinned.

Please make sure this too. It won't work if it still running in the background.

Thanks

Chrome wasn't running. I guess it just doesn't work for 64 bit.

Use Firefox. I could never get the Chrome work around to work all the time. Firefox just works. It's skinned all the time. I use win10 and WB10 keep that in mind.

I thought of something and tried it.  Before I simply downloaded that shortcut and tried but it didn't work.  So this time I simply edited the shortcut I already had by adding that last part that is bolded above.  It worked!

That link in Windowblinds config pointing to learn how to skin chrome/edge doesn't have any info in skinning Edge.

and my Edge isn't skinned

I'm using the default Edge appearance > the box to allow skinning is checked in Wb Config UI >

I'm on Windows 11 22H2 OS Build 22621.963 > WB 11.0.1.0

Edge shortcut:  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --profile-directory=Default

Am I supposed to also add the --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar

That information work for both Chrome and Edge. So yes you'll need to add that "--disable-... etc.

Sad to say, I am still having troubles with Chrome skinning.  I get the borders on the left, right, bottom, but the min/max/close buttons are missing.  I am on the latest version of Windowblinds, have made sure it is up to date, but no matter what, I cannot get the top buttons to skin (in fact, they are missing entirely).

Ok, I just made sure hardware option in Chrome was enabled and it fixed the skinning issue.  Might want to make a note of that in the instructions.
