Interesting observations, Obi. Sorry for being OT, but I figure I might as well stick my comments in right behind Obi’s.
So we have a bipolar Metaverse now, do we? Hmmm... the Race to One Million did remind me of the Arms Race of the Cold War. If we use a simplified Western viewpoint, the Fellowship would be the U.S.A. and perhaps the Jedi Republic would be Western Europe. G.R.O.S.S. would of course be the Soviet Union. Would the Pirates of the Southern Seas be the Eastern Bloc? This viewpoint is a result of designating “good” alignments as the Capitalist West while designating “evil” alignments as the Communist East. Too simple in my opinion. Let’s look at this from another viewpoint, shall we?
How about ideology? I think the MWC serves as an excellent staring point for this. “The People’s Empire” includes a lot of references to the hardworking values of their agricultural roots. Can this be any more obvious? It’s the People’s Republic of China! Now all major empires accept all gaming alignments so we’re going to have to look a little deeper for the rest. MWCers claims to be agents of good (in a roundabout way) as does the Fellowship and the Jedi Republic. If we’re willing to describe the Fellowship as an empire that strives for “higher ideals” then perhaps it is the Fellowship that is the Soviet Union! Likewise, if we’re willing to describe G.R.O.S.S. as an empire that simple does “whatever works” that bears a striking resemblance to actual U.S. policies (both foreign and domestic). I’d fill in the rest, but I’m sure most have already skipped this post.

Keep your minds open! There are always more than one legitimate view.
Again, sorry for being so OT. Go Terran Federation!
