Crime spread doesn't show up from "Look the other way" policy until game reloads

When using Xeloxi's "look the other way" perk, the crime spread does not show up on the enemy planet when you create a new trade route and end the turn.  The crime numbers on the enemy planet do not change. Instead, this is required to view the increased crime AFTER a trade route is established:

0. Set up the new trade route.  The crime number on the enemy planet does not increase like it is supposed to.

1. Take OFF the perk "look the other way".  At this point, the UI will not refresh, and your colonies will still show the elevated crime that the "look the other way" perk provides.  Essentially, it is looking like nothing has happened despite the policy removal.

2. Save and immediately reload (ending the turn also works, but this progresses the game).  This will refresh YOUR planets' UI to show the newly reduced crime levels since the policy was removed.

3. Immediately re-add the "look the other way" policy.  This will immediately show increased crime in YOUR colonies, bringing the numbers back up to where they were before the save/reload, which is expected and correct.

4. NOW end your turn.  You will notice the enemy planet that got the new trade route with you will increase its crime rate after you end your turn.  The planet's crime rate should now display accurately.

This process needs to be repeated every time new trade routes are established.

Ideally, the crime rates would show an increase as soon as the trade route is established, rather than require this save/reload process to update the numbers.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I will pass it along to the developers to take a look.

Clarification:

After more testing, I have found that this glitch exists

1. If you load a saved game where "Look The Other Way" is already active when the game loads.  Then, when establishing a new trade route, you will NOT see the increase of crime at the end of the turn like you are supposed to.

This glitch does NOT exist:

2. If you are in the same game instance where "Look The Other Way" was ASSIGNED DURING this current game, then new trade routes will indeed show the increased crime at the end of the turn.

This means that in a new game that you never leave, everything will work correctly.  If you find yourself loading an old game, thus being in scenario 1 above (the broken scenario), then all you have to do is un-assign "Look the other way", then quickly re-assign it.  This brings you back to scenario 2 (since it was just re-assigned during the current game instance), and everything will work.

No loading/reloading is necessary - I mistakenly thought this was necessary during my preliminary testing.  The glitch will fix if you simply trivially unassign then reassign "Look the other way" before ending your turn.

This is still a bug in 2026.

I play Xeloxi and I don't even know if this is a visual glitch or a mechanical one. Very annoying. I think there is a related bug to this : approval isn't modified by crime rate on AI civilizations. (I pushed the crime from 52% to 100% on Mimot homeworld and their approval of 92% wasn't decreased.)

Do you have a save game for this? Are you using mods?

I did test and the crime is modified but it doesn't immediately do a UI update. If anything will appear on the next turn. Regarding the approval there are culture perks that cancel out crime. The Mimot typically have the Pacifism ideology there is a Charity perk thats -10% global crime. There might be other reasons your seeing what your seeing. If you can share a save it will make it easier to look into.
