Start 11 1.2 lost functionality

I was using Beta 1.11 and could have Windows 11 menu controlled by Start 11 and keep menu in Win 11 mode centered. Installed the final 1.2 build today and get a message I cannot do that? Where the heck do I get 1.11 back so I can work how I want not how you guys want to make me. I hate when final versions kill the feature I use, can't you guys just leave features the heck alone my menu now looks like crap. I use widgets bar it is now mixed around my darn start menu., I hate it please make it work right for god's sake.

No functionality has been removed.

As noted in the UI if you enable the enhance taskbar option you cannot centre the start button.  This is unfortunately how that feature works.

You have two options to make it work how you like depending on your needs.

1) You can set the taskbar buttons to centre in Start11 settings which will leave the start button + widgets icon + search on the far left but centre the running apps + pinned apps.

or 2) You can go to the taskbar page in Start11 settings and disable the enhance the taskbar option at the top and then restart explorer.  You will then be able to position the start button in the centre as you did with 1.11.

Then why without that change did it work in 1.11 if it did not lose functionality

I am at a loss as to how anyone could say it did not lose functionality that is just a patently incorrect statement

Because the enhance taskbar feature is new in 1.2.

If you disable it everything is as it was in 1.11 in terms of functionality.

The new feature doesn't allow centre but you have not lost anything as that feature didn't exist before and it defaults to off.

In fact, I know you are wrong as I was able to use the enhanced start menu mode, I just tried disabling enhanced menu and I no longer have the start 11 enhancements and I most definitely did in 1.11, so you are just wrong. You removed or broke functionality one of the two.

I no longer for example have the removed favorites section, I did before, no longer have the custom Start 11 widgets for control panel and settings, tons of things are missing that were definitely there under 1.11

I am afraid I have to disagree on this.  The taskbar enhancement feature (ungroup + drag & drop support + multi row taskbar ) were new in Start11 from 1.15 beta onwards.  They have never worked with centred start button.

Start11 1.11 offered transparency, texture, colour control and the option to centre / left align the taskbar and if you disable the taskbar enhancement feature you will have what you had in 1.11 I promise.

I think we are talking at cross purposes here.

I am talking about the Taskbar enhancements.  These are on the taskbar page in Start11 at the very top controlled by "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar"

It sounds like you are talking about the start menu in which case please do not disable the "Use the Start11 Start menu" option or yes you will lose everything menu related Start11 provides.  But you don't need to as this is unrelated.  The centre position of the start menu is linked to the taskbar enhancements.

I see what happened, the 'new' enhanced start bar setting somehow deleted all of my custom settings, I had to reset them all back up and I am back. sorry, I did not expect an upgrade to mess with and make all my carefully set settings go away.

I just ran the 'upgrade option by the way, no config no nothing, just got the mail about the actual final version and clicked upgrade inside Start 11

The config UI never opened up?

Curious as the option will require manual turning on.

Either way glad it is sorted for you.

It is always possible we have to remove features due to Windows changes, but we would always try to avoid that.

just to chime in...i think its possible to override the center start button option if you're using explorer patcher at the same time as start 11. do you use this together op?

If you use explorer patcher you cannot enable the start11 enhance taskbar feature so things will work as in 1.11

I do not use, never heard of explorer patcher, and no user interface config option screen opened it just patched Start 11 and when I restarted my PC like it requested after installing my start bar was all messed up. It was odd as after turning the option off for enhanced start bar all my what is on and off settings like display control panel and what icons to add/remove and my custom icons I added for favored folders were all lost so the menu looked like unmodified Windows 11 start. So I guess that new option was added in 1.15 apparently which I never got a mail alert about that I noticed so never upgraded to that version. So I jumped from 1.11 to 1.2, maybe that had something to do with it?

I'm a bit lost with the answer but I agree with kliebor ! In beta I had the start11 taskbar enhancements on AND the start button was centered in the taskbar.  I liked that.

How do I get it back to that in 1.2 ? i.e. kliebor what did you do to get it working the way I described ? Not sure I have a back up anywhere of settings !

I am afraid I have to disagree, you could not have.

The ungrouping feature of Start11 has never worked with centred start button.  It actively disables centre should you set it and has done in all the betas.

If you disable the taskbar enhancements (the ungrouping support + multiline + drag & drop) then you can set the button to the centre again.

Please note I am talking about Taskbar enhancements, not Start Menu ones.  It is only the new to v1.2 (well new since 1.15) ungrouping taskbar buttons support that prevents centre.

I turned off the enhanced task bar and then had to turn back on hiding suggested programs and selecting the icons I wanted displayed in the bottom bar. You lose the ability to monkey with double wide taskbar and other special enhancements, but they were not in 1.11 and I never used them, and honesty do not need them so, setting it back to work like 1.11 was exactly what I wanted. The buttons I lost were the ones down here circled in red, I just had to reset them.
