Start11 Bug after Windows 11 upgrade.

Start11 Bug affects Windows Explorer and cripples Fences.

Hi Folks,

I've recently upgraded to Windows 11 and all is well until I install Start11 and I then see the following issues:

Action:
Right-click on the desktop to bring up the context menu.
Result: All icons, the backdrop and fences disappear from the desktop, like it's a refresh and the context menu does not appear. I see a busy cursor for ~5 seconds. All items are then redrawn on the desktop, but still no menu.

Action: Right click on the Start button and select "Settings".
Result: The same refresh occurs and I get a popup saying that Fences has temporarily been disabled.

Uninstalling Start11 returns my PC to 'normality'.

Specs:

Edition    Windows 11 Pro
Version    21H2
Installed on    ‎Wed ‎09/‎03/‎2022
OS build    22000.556
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.556.0

Happy to provide additional info if required.

Regards,
Ed.

Hi Basj, thank you.

After some further investigation this appears to be a Windows bug. As a workaround (found on the web) if I right click on the start button and open the device manager I can then right click on the desktop to show the context menu. But I only noticed this issue after installing Start11.

For completeness here are the Stardock software versions:

Fences: 4.0.0.3
Start11: 1.1  I see the same behaviour with version 1.11.

...and some additional info. In Windows eventvwr the faulting application for the failing menu is Explorer.exe and a library BIB.dll

Hello,
Please uninstalled Start11, reboot, and reinstall using the latest beta V1.15 which you can find more information on it here : https://forums.stardock.com/510777/ . Reboot again after the install and retest. Report back.

Thanks

Hi,

I retried as per your instructions and still see the issue. I think this is actually a windows bug that I just happened to experience/notice at the time of installing Start11. I will keep investigating and update this thread if I find anything.

Thanks again,
Ed.
