KVM Mode disconnects when not using dual monitors

Hello,

 

A little background:

So I use my work PC and my home PC side by side with a monitor for each.

I have a HDMI switcher so I can use dual monitors when not using my work PC.

 

Issue:

The issue i'm having is when I use KVM mode when my work PC is using the monitor, it works without issue, but if I try to use dual monitors with my home PC while trying to KVM to my work PC, the screen freezes and nothing happens. It does resume normally once I have the 2nd monitor re-connected to my work PC though.

I've tried just unplugging the HDMI from my work PC and using KVM, but it still doesn't work. 

It seems like my work PC MUST have a monitor for KVM mode to work which defeats the whole purpose of KVM.

 

Any input is appreciated!

That would not be true, MP can connect to a headless PC and render a display in most cases.  For some laptops, however, when the lid is closed and the PC powers down the display, it can sometimes render just a black screen (and why I asked).  In those cases (and for headless PCs with the same issue), we recommend these:

While it's unfortunate I have to purchase additional hardware to use this software to it's full extent, I'll give it a shot.

However, yes eliminating the HDMI splitter altogether and having NO HDMI plugged in at all when the lid is closed gives me a frozen screen(not a black screen).

 

If I keep the laptop open with no HDMI, KVM is working as expected.

So I believe you are correct about the lid being closed.

I'll try this purchase you recommended and let you know the results.
