Faction Spacing

Below is a screen snapshot of my galaxy settings.  As you can see, I have set "Civilization Proximity" to "Distant".  The "Number of Sectors" is set to "A Few".  The "Starting Sector Size" is set to "Large".  On the "Opponents" screen I have selected 8 opponents.

Given these settings why do I always end up with 2 other factions in my starting sector?  I have started 4 games over the last 2 days and I quit each time after discovering at least 2 factions in my starting sector.  Is this behavior intended or is this a bug?

I'm pretty sure the settings are working as intended.  Not saying that this how anyone would expect your settings to play out, but I've noticed that you have to set proximity to "FAR" to guarantee no other Civs in your home sector.   You could still get a "Minor Civ" even on "FAR", but that's ok in my book.

The combination of settings does not allow you to start alone.  Only having a few large sectors in it, the map places the 8 races where they will best fit.

Distant, in fact, will never place another race (unless there is no other space for it) in a sector smaller than Medium.  Since you have a Large starting sector, it is unsurprising that you are with others.
