The Windows 10 native "Pin to start" pins apps in Start11 : Is it a bug or a feature ?

Hi,

I have installed Start11 v1.1 on  Windows 10 20H2.

I have created a shortcut on my desktop called "Cmd - Users" (Target : %windir%\system32\cmd.exe /K "cd C:\Users")

When I use the native Windows 10 "Pin to start" on "Cmd - Users", it is pinned in the "Native Windows 10 Start menu" (as expected), but it is also pinned in the "Start11 Windows 10 Style" and "Start11 Windows 11 Style" (this was not expected).

When I use "Unpin from start" (from the "Native Windows 10 Start menu") on "Cmd - Users", it is upinned from the "Native Windows 10 Start menu" (as expected), but it is also unpinned from the "Start11 Windows 10 Style" and "Start11 Windows 11 Style" (this was not expected).

In my understanding, the "Native Windows 10 Start menu", the "Start11 Windows 10 Style" and "Start11 Windows 11 Style" should be 3 different Start Menus you should configure independently from each other. Is it correct ?

If it is correct, the native Windows 10 "Pin to start" / "Unpin from start" shouldn't Pin/Unpin in Start11.

Kind regards

Laurent

This is normal for v1.1.

Due to user confusion we now sync pins from the OS with the Win10 and 11 style menus.  We do not sync a pin using Pin to Start11 to the OS however, only pins and unpins from the OS menu.  That said unpinning from Win10/11 menu will unpin from the OS as otherwise you wouldn't be able to repin using the OS options.

On Windows 11 the search offers pin to Start with no ability for it to be extended by us to offer pin to Start 11 hence this solution.

If you do not want this behaviour you can disable it with a registry key and then signing out and in again.

You would create a REG_SZ value with the value of "1" called NoSyncPins at this location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8

Hi Neil,

Thanks very much for you efficient help !

Setting this registry key exactly solves my problem : The native Windows 10 "Pin to start" / "Unpin from start" does not Pin/Unpin in Start11 anymore |-)

Kind regards

I use Start11 and Windows11 style start menu and in my case I want the apps pinned to the system Start menu to sync their pinned status to Start11 start menu. I don't see corresponding Start11 registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\. How to make it sync?

Thank you!
