Search results

Search results should include pinned items, and prioritize them

I have about 20 apps pinned so far... (expecting to pin more)

I've been typing for years, so hitting the winkey and then typing the start of the name of the app I want to launch is very comfortable to me.  The funny thing is, the search does not prioritize items that I have alread pinned.

This is the top of my start menu:

This is the search results as I type "notepad"

So if I type "note" and hit enter, Windows Notepad runs, not Notepad++ that I have pinned.  This is just wrong...

That is an interesting point.  Should a pinned item get higher priority than a closer match (note is a greater % of the full name for Notepad than Notepad++)

We shall give it some thought.

I think one of the strong points of the start bar is the ability to, using just the keyboard, launch a program.  The difference is HUGE:

  • Mouse over to the start icon, click, find the icon of the app you want, mouse to it and click.
  • Hit WinKey, type the first few letters of the app you want and hit enter.  (which uses the search facility)

Please give precedence to items already pinned to the start menu.  It only make sense.  If I have installed 10 programs that include the word "studio" in their name, but only one is pinned, it should be first in the list and have focus.
