Start11

Possible Bug - Menu opens half way up the screen

I am experiencing an issue with Start11 in which the Start Menu will open from the middle of the screen, approximately half way up.  I have the start button on my left monitor in the windows task bar, as well as on my right monitor on my ObjectDock.  When I start my PC, the menu opens as expected, right above the start button that I use to open the menu, then for no apparent reason it will start opening half way up the screen.

The start menu still opens on the screen that has the start menu used to trigger it (IE Left = Taskbar, Right = ObjectDock,) but in the wrong position. (Image below.)

Opening the Start11 Configuration utility and setting the "Use Start11" off then on again has no effect.  I need to reboot in order for the menu to move back to its original position.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Which version of Start11 you're running? Have you tried V.95  or V.96?

Thanks

Quick question, does this only happen having opened it once from ObjectDock?

No, it happens from either the Object Dock, or the start button on the taskbar.

The image shows it happening from the start button on the taskbar.

Thank you for looking into this!

Ok, so it isn't triggered by a single launch from objectdock.

I have to say I am scratching my head on this one as the menu is clearly positioning correctly horizontally.

It is almost like the size of the screen is being returned incorrectly to Start11.

What resolution are your two monitors and what scaling factors are they using? (and also is the primary to the left or right?)

Hello Neil,

Sorry for the delayed response.

I have 2 LG UltraGear 32" monitors, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB card.

My left monitor is the primary monitor and is connected via DisplayPort and my right monitor is the secondary monitor and connected via HDMI.  The resolution of both monitors is 1920x1080 and the scaling is 100%.

The windows taskbar is on the left(primary) monitor and my 3 object docks are on my right(secondary) monitor. Start11 is only on 1 of the docks.  The issue was occurring prior to the install of ObjectDock, so I don't think it's related to that application.

This is a fresh install of Windows 11.  It's not an upgrade from windows 10, I wiped my PC and installed the OS fresh. This was not an issue when I was running Win10 on this PC.

The video driver, installed hours before Start11 was the most updated one from NVIDIA .  I also updated the "Generic PnP Monitor" to the latest LG UltraGear drivers from their website.

In addition, I have ObjectDock/Star11 on my HP Spectre laptop as well as my Surface Pro.  Those 2 devices, also running windows 11, do not experience this issue.

I hope this gives you some useful information to help track down the bug.

So I'm experiencing the same thing, menu opening about halfway up my screen, whether it's positioned in the center or the the left. Any update on that? Thanks.

Hello Neil!

My issue is resolved, sort of.

(Long story short) A few weeks ago I unplugged everything from my PC to clean it.  When I plugged the monitors back in I plugged them into the graphics card integrated into the mother board.  That is when window placements became an issue, though the halfway up the screen did start with Start11 after my Win11 upgrade.

Today I moved the monitors back to my nVidia card and the window placement issues stopped, including Start11 moving up the screen.

The integrated graphics card is the Intel UHD Graphics 630.

The "sort of" is because the issue does seem to be related to he Intel graphics card, which I hope helps you narrow down the cause, or at least offer direction to others experiencing this.

Thanks!

Anyone else using intel graphics?

Hey Neil.  I have to take it back.  After 4 hours the start menu started doing it again.  It usually occurred within minutes of logging in.  I know this is an odd issue.

No, it happens from both the Windows 11 start button as well as ObjectDock.

The image I shared is showing it occurring from the start button.   ObjectDock is on a separate monitor.  When initially starting my PC, the menu will open in the expected location, immediately above the button which triggered it (IE The Win11 start button on the taskbar on my primary monitor, or the Start11 button on the dock on my secondary monitor.  If you review the thread, specifically the first message as well as reply#7, I think I have provided reasonable details on the issue, though I can elaborate on any questions you have.

I just reinstalled Start11 on my MS Surface.  It is doing the same thing.

Can I please get a response?  I have been a Stardock user for many years, and have been an avid promotor of ObjectDock and Object Desktop to the people around me.  I have also assisted members of my family in purchasing, installing and configuring these products because I enjoy them so much.  Unless you begin communicating with me, this will be my final subscription.

I understand if the issue has not been identified, but please stop ignoring the issue.

So far we have been entirely unable to reproduce this which is very frustrating.

A significant percentage of the small number of users experiencing the issues have been running ObjectDock however which could be a factor as it asks the menu to be in a specific location but installing that has not shown any problems here.

Please be aware ObjectDock is neither compatible with Windows 10 or 11.  I have to ask does the problem continue if you uninstall ObjectDock and reboot?

We have made a change which could impact the Win10/11 styles in Start11 for a future update as there was a change which could be linked to autohide taskbar support but that could not impact the Win7 menu.

We have seen reports of both all menus being impacted and also only the Win10/11 styles, so it is possible there are two causes rather than one.

Hello Neil!

I removed ObjectDock from my laptop and the menu stopped opening at the top of the screen.  I waited 3 days to make sure, and it is now fine.  In one of my previous messages I mentioned my laptops had not been experiencing the issue, and I realized that I had not installed ObjectDock on them because they are only a single monitor.  When I re-imaged my laptop last week I did install it and that is when the menu started opening at the top.  It then stopped when I uninstalled it.

I used ObjectDock in Windows 10 for years and never experienced an issue.  Technically I understand it is not compatible, but I never had an issue.

I appreciate your getting back to me.  I hope you are able to get the issue corrected.

Thank you.

Anything about your object Dock settings would be useful.

Below I have 2 files from the \AppData\Local\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus folder.

These 2 come from my desktop, which has custom settings.

I did not make any adjustments to the settings in my Surface laptop.  It was a fresh install with default settings.  I had not gotten around to configuring it yet.
