Unable to launch Start11 on Win11: "This beta has expired"

"This beta version of Start11 has expired, but there's an updated version on the website"

I have just bought "Start 11 Beta", paid $4.99, downloaded the installation, ran it, restarted my Win11 Pro Build 22454.rs_prerelease.

Upon startup, I see the message above: This beta haz expired blah blah. Closing the dialog brings me back to the page where I can buy the Beta.

What's wrong here? How come an app just downloaded is "expired"?

Same "this beta has expired" taking me to the buy page to buy the Start11 that I already bought. Does anyone know where to find the "updated beta" download?

Apparently Start11 final being released Oct 7 but cannot install Start11 beta so now what, pay again?

Hello,

If you already purchase Start11, you should have the new beta in your product page https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products.

Please try to download from there. If you still have issues please report back here. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Hey thanks, that link worked.

The version I downloaded was sent to me in the email when I bought Start11 and that was the "expired" version just so you know.

Thanks!

Hi, I just bought Start11 and have installed it from the link in my email and from the order history page. But after a reboot both say the beta is expired. I went to "My Downloads" as linked earlier in the thread and it tells me "No registrations found". What I keep grabbing is a file called Start11_setup_sd.exe and is 35,758 KB.

(Problem is I can't start Start11 after installing it to activate it, so... I guess that's why it isn't showing under My Downloads.)

Start11_64.exe reports it's version 0.5.0.0, modified 8/5/2021 @ 3:57 PM.

The link I'm using is https://store.stardock.com/download/5788
An alternate link to the same file that I get from my purchase email takes me to https://cdn.stardock.us/downloads/public/software/start/Start11-fs-setup_sd.exe

You should get it from your product account : link I posted above. If you see it is not listed there. Than probably it might be you have purchase Start11 in another account. Try checking the email you use to link for your payment. A lot of time, people miss type their email address or if you use paypal to pay for it. It most probably under your paypal linked email address.

Hi Basj, thanks for trying to help me. I'm in the right account - it shows under my Completed Orders. Unfortunately since I can't activate Start11 after install, it doesn't show up under My Downloads.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

From the looks of it, you all never actually activated your purchase. You can get your key with this link:

Why can't you, what happens when you try?  You should get a prompt like this to enter a key when you attempt to open the Start11 config:

I'm getting this message too. Maybe they're pushing an update.

I can see that you recently activated again.  Are you still seeing any expiration messages?

That all said, some beta software we push out is set to expire automatically - it DOES NOT mean you are not entitled to the product any longer, its just a safety measure to ensure people are on the most recent version (for example, we would not want someone on a version where there it could be found that there is the potential for catastrophic failures).

Since its late, I can't verify that for certain that this is the case with .50 (that it may be forced to expire) but it will be a priority for me 1st thing.

What I want to be certain of now is that:

Again, sorry to see more than a few with the issue but we will get to the bottom of it.

As Basj says you need to install Beta 0.55 rather than 0.5

I would recommend uninstalling 0.5, rebooting and then installing 0.55 and this should resolve your problem.

We will be making sure 0.55 is pushed as an update asap and please accept our apologies for the mix up.  Early betas have expiry dates like Windows insider builds, and they get replaced over time with new ones with later dates.  We only do this with the initial betas of a product to avoid people using old versions and reporting issues that are long since gone.  In this case the 0.55 beta which came out back in August didn't get fully pushed out to everyone hence the issue.

On the good news front there is a major update coming next week which is very exciting.

and don't worry you will not have to pay again, paying for the beta means you also get the release just like everyone who purchases after release.

I have tried several alternative approaches to getting this to work with no success. I downloaded the update using the link above and it didn't work. I tried downloading the program using my original licensing email and it didn't work. I tried uninstalling the original beta (0.5) and then downloading and installing the program using my licensing email and then the download from my account at Stardock. In every case when I try to launch the program I get the expired beta intercept and it redirects me to a page offering me an opportunity to purchase the program again. What a mess.

Me too. Object Desktop subscriber until 2022. Keeps saying I need to install a new beta, that you have to buy, and then Groundhog Day, start over. Even bought again under a new account. Download again, install, run and says expired and to install new beta. Groundhog Day again.

How many more  must I buy to get it to work?
