Start 11 affected by Start 10?

Hi,

I am having a heap of trouble getting Start11 to work properly. I have "purged" Start 8/10 as per other threads, but the Start10 folder keeps reappearing on my machine and messing with the Start11 functionality. I can only get Start11 to work by pressing the Windows key - clicking on the start button just brings up the Windows Horror Show menu.

Any tips?

Thanks,

Mark

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, what do you actually mean by this "Start10 folder keeps reappearing on my machine and messing with the Start11 functionality". Please elaborate.

Also need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows versions. Windows 10 or Windows 11. And full Windows versions numbers. Use Winver.exe for full Windows version numbers.
  2. Start11 version installed.

Thanks

Hi,

I am running Windows 11 22000.194 and Start11 version 0.5.

When I install Start11 it takes a little time for it to 'work' when clicking on the start icon - it always works when I click the Windows key. However, there is a folder (that I have deleted many times now) that seems to stop the Start11 from working with a click - the folder is:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\Start10

No matter how many times I delete it, it returns....whilst I am not absolutely certain this is causing Start11 to malfunction, it is certainly a coincidence. I am unable to uninstall Start10 because I have never purchased it (I once used Start8 way back when).

Regards,

Hello,
I believe when you install Start11. It create Start10 folder for its own use. Do not delete that folder. That is probably the reason you having issue with Start11 when you delete that folder. Also try to use the latest Start11 beta V0.55. Try that and report back.

Hi Basj,

OK - creating a folder called Start10 is a touch confusing....but I will leave it alone.

As it turns out, version 0.55 is far worse than 0.5 - so many bugs in it that it was unusable (e.g. test on the right side menu had to be hovered over to reveal it, the start menu popping up half-way up the screen....let alone the same problem with it not working on clicking the start button). I think I might just wait until the final product is released and try it then. Until then, I will have to put up with the Windows 11 start menu.

Cheers,

Have you made any modifications to your Windows 11 install?

No - all of the settings are standard Windows 11 defaults....

Was it a Win10 --->Win11 update or fresh Win11?

Maybe off topic, but some software still sees my system as Windows 10, even though it is Windows 11.
