Software refuses to persistently recognize my license key

Deskscapes

I am using windows 10, and I have a paid account since last year that is due to be repurchased on October 2nd.  This is a Stardock account, not a steam purchase, and included all of the customization software.  I also own any number of your games on Steam. I have spent hundreds on your products.  I have been using your customization software without issues for a year now, and fully intend to repurchase a continuation of my full Object Desktop license when due.

Except:  I went to use Deskscapes 10 to provide myself with a slideshow desktop background, and could not figure out how.  I did a web search and found a Deskscapes manual on your website that showed an interface that looked nothing like the Deskscapes 10 interface.

https://www.stardock.com/products/deskscapes/helpds325/intro.htm

I figured I must need to update, so I ran object desktop, which said it updated my Deskscapes to Deskscapes 11, and then asked me for my registration information. I entered my registration information, and Deskscapes 11 seemed to activate, but again the user interface looked nothing like the manual. Turned out to be a manual for version 3.2 of Deskscapes o.O.  So I searched this site and found the correct manual, and went to create a slideshow.  Nothing displays on my monitors from using Deskscapes 11.  Nothing.  Black background. No matter what I do.  I am computer savvy, and am doing exactly what SHOULD provide a desktop background at the very least.

I figured ok, I should restart the software.  Upon restarting Deskscapes 11, I was again asked for my registration information. o.O  Which I entered again.  Again it told me my registration information was accepted, but after doing so, a small pop-up box showed up on the bottom right of my screen which said something about registration information not found, please enter registration information.  Which I did in the little pop-up box.  Which ALSO said, thank you registration information accepted.

Still, nothing displays on my desktop but a black background.  Every single time I close it and try again, Deskscapes 11 again asks me for my registration information.  Every time I add it to whichever entry field is asking it tells me my registration information was accepted.  Now Deskscapes 10 (which apparently was not replaced by Deskscapes 11) is also doing the same thing, btw.

I went to the faq that says please go to C:\ProgramData\Stardock directory and delete the entire folder for PRODUCTNAME, and then try to register the software again.  I did that, deleting the folders named Deskscapes - and Deskscapes (both 10 and 11) are STILL repeatedly asking me for my registration information, and refusing to display anything on my monitors.

I love your software and was intending to renew my license and upload some of the themes I have created with Curtains, and Start 10.  I am not renewing my license if this issue is not resolved.  I will use Curtains and Start 10 without ongoing update support if it comes to that.  However, I would prefer a satisfactory resolution, and to continue to renew my license.

Hello,
Very sorry to hear you are having issues. First, please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: [link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again immediately after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Also, We need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows version, please use Windows "Winver.exe" for full Windows version numbers.
  2. Deskscape 11 version installed.
  3. Any details on your computer that is relevant to the issue. ie monitor/s resolutions, graphics card etc.

Thanks

Purging, rebooting. downloading Deskscapes 11 from the website, and registering it, then rebooting again fixed the issue with the registration, and also is now allowing it to display my slideshow.  Apparently, Deskscapes 11 was mad that Deskscapes 10 was still on my computer (which was also removed by the purge).  At least that is my educated guess.  Frankly, I think the Object Desktop software is significantly flawed as I've had to update via this website several times when Object Desktop failed to do it correctly.

However, now Deskscapes 11 is somewhat ignoring me when I tell it to apply the slideshow only to my main monitor.  It is doing so but placing a black background on my secondary monitor.  And using windows to restore the correct image to monitor 2 makes the slideshow on monitor 1 stop playing. It is also insistently tiling some of my pictures in the slideshow, and I can't figure out how to tell it not to.

Sorry for getting irritated, having the software repeatedly ask me for registration was very annoying.  Now I'd like a resolution to make it stop removing my second monitor's background.

Hello,

Are you trying to run Deskscapes on only one monitors and let the other one running normal Windows wallpaper?

I was, yes. I just found the solution to both issues.  I had to tell Deskscapes to display the image I wanted, but it did not offer me a choice of which monitor.  It seems to have placed it on both, then was replaced on monitor 1 when the slideshow continued.

I have to say the UI is not very intuitive ;p  Selecting an image then hitting the options tab on the bottom before finding "apply background now" was not intuitive at all.  Might I suggest that in addition to fixing Object Desktop not correctly installing and uninstalling things, that Deskcapes 11 be given a separate "Display this (wallpaper/whatever) on monitor #" like it does for the slideshows?  An option to select stretch/tiling/center/etc for each monitor, as opposed to a single setting buried under options/default would also be welcome.

In any event, the problems are resolved, and I again intend to renew my license.  I also again apologize for my irritation.  Thank you for a solution.

I think it is best to use the playlist option. I have 2 monitors and with Deskscape 11. I create two playlist with different set of wallpapers for each of my monitors and assign each playlist to each monitors. And it work for me.

Thing is, I wanted a static background for my 2nd monitor.  One other concern/suggestion is allowing the use of animated gifs with the software.  They take up much much less memory than a video for people such as myself who have a cpu/gpu combo instead of a dedicated graphics card (which are outrageously priced these days).

As I mentioned you can create a static background (wallpapers) playlist. If you wish for it not to change, than use only one wallpaper (static image) in your playlist. And you can create another playlist with all those animated/video/dreams for your other monitor.
