DeskScape V11 Beta 4 background/settings reset every 2-3 days

DeskScapes Community,

I have noticed since switching to DeskScapes Version 11 that the DeskScapes background (settings) are lost or reset every 2-3 days.

I set the background and it maintains the settings for 2-3 days. After that, DeskScapes reverts to a black background.

I am using Windows 10 Pro 12H1, OS Build 19043.1165.

I am using DeskScapes Version 11 BETA 4.

I am an admin of my PC, so that should not be an issue with installs, account control, registry, etc.

Has anyone else experienced this reset or loss of settings after a few days?

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your reply.

Regards,

Jerry

Resets to black because black is the color you have set in Windows normally?  Or no, that its black is part of the problem?

Sean,

The background I was using before DeskScapes was the following:

"C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\img0.jpg"

At some point, the background did change to black. This would explain the recent black background, but does not explain why DeskScapes stops displaying my preferred background, which is the following animated background of Windows 10 v2 by AzDude:

This morning, I disabled DeskScapes, reset the preferred Windows background to first image above, and then enabled DeskScapes.

I will report if the "reset" happens again.

Thanks,

Jerry

Sean,

This morning the background has been changed to black and the animated DeskScapes background is missing or not enabled.

Image below shows the Windows Personalize Settings interface.

Next actions?

To see the background, are you using the 'show desktop' button or is this seen when you close everything?

Also, what happens when you restart Windows Explorer:

Sean,

The black background appears when everything is closed.

In fact, after a reboot this morning, the background was black.

I had already reconfigured DeskScapes to use the animated background by the time I read your reply.

I just restarted Windows Explorer via Task Manager and the animated background remained.

I will reboot later today to see what, if anything, changes.

Jerry

DeskScapes did not start, nor did it have the preferred animated background selected.

If when this happens, is the 'DSHost Application' running in Task Manger:

Sean,

This morning following a reboot, the preferred DeskScapes background appeared for a couple of seconds and then switched to the black background.

DSHost Application is not running.

I did notice that Stardock DeskScapes 11 Service was running.

Be advised, other Stardock apps running include Object Desktop, CursorFX, Curtains, Fences, and Groupy.

These all ran together well prior to the upgrade to DeskScapes 11.

When DS is working it is running, yes?

If so, something is killing that process on your PC or a conflict causing it to crash. You might want to check your AV app(s) are not shutting it down or if there is something in Windows Event Viewer indicating what is shutting it down \ why its crashing:

Sean,

Just a quick update.

This time I went nearly a week before losing the background settings.

I had performed multiple reboots during that time and the antivirus software ran each night.

Is there any place in particular in the Windows Logs where I should look? I am not having much luck using the Filter or Find tools to search.

Jerry

And DSHost was running each time, yes?

And it was not when you noticed it was not working, yes?

You are likely looking for an application failure.

The animated background was displayed as expected, so I concluded that DSHost was running each time I rebooted, but I did not confirm this.

The correct background displayed for several days in a row. This morning after the reboot, the display was correct for a brief moment and then was changed to a black background. DSHost was not running.

For the next few days, I will try to confirm that DSHost is running each morning after the previous evening's reboot.

Thanks for your continued assistance with this, Sean.

Jerry
