For at least a couple of years now, the EULA has read that it is 1 PC per license:

During that time, we have still allowed 5 programmatically.  Start11 is the 1st product where the EULA limit of 1 will be enforced. That does not mean that any product you have purchased in the past will now only allow for 1; any prior purchased product that allows for 5 will still allow for 5.

Object Desktop licenses will allow 5 concurrent activations of its member applications.

If you need more activations for Start11, they would need to be purchased.  If you are a business and need larger numbers of activations on a single key, the 'For Business' product will soon be available as it is for many other popular products:

I'm the same as others here. I have 3 PC's at home that were running Start10 from the single purchase. Now find that I can only activate Start 11 on one PC only. That really sucks and might now re-educate myself to using the Windows menu system. Might even give away 'Fences' and 'Deskscape' too. I know that the price isn't that excessive but at least allow it as say a 'family home purchase' for a minimum of 3 computers, even at a slightly higher purchase price.

I believe that many people, like me, have been idle after purchasing the software and do not have a lot of time to pay attention to the changes in software-eula. Out of inertia, purchase support was provided in the BETA version for the first time, but obviously your current move is a devastating blow to the enthusiasm of users.

I think that suddenly changing the 1/1 authorization when you did not launch a single serial number corresponding to multiple machines in time is not conducive to product promotion. For users who purchase licenses for the first time, you should give them your care. I think that 1/5 license is a bit exaggerated, and 1/2 license is not excessive.

I have seven computers in my household, five of which have Start10 installed. Accordingly, as per the Start10 EULA, I purchased five Start10 licenses. It has never occurred to me to even attempt activating the program on more computers than the license allows; as a matter of fact, I wasn't even aware of that option. That is because I wasn't entitled to deploy each license on more than one machine at a time, to begin with.

Seeing how people complain about a *technical* licensing change – the nature of which has no bearing as far as the terms in question are concerned – really saddens me. All the more so when said software costs $4.99.

Not only do I agree with sdRohan that the *per-computer* asking price of $4.99 is fair, but I actually think that it is on the low side – given the usefulness of the software, its quality and the great support that's being offered to its users.

You do realize that if people did that Stardock would not have a business. 🤔

As far as DRM, the main driving factor for people to circumnavigate it is because companies get greedy and charge too much for their products.

Explorerpatcher is an entirely different thing and doesn't even provide a menu?

With regards to lag, when is it laggy?  We are aware of some reports of the menu initial open animation not always running at full frame rate.  It doesn't slow things down, but it doesn't look ideal and newer internal builds have tweaked this.

Likewise if you have a low end mouse with basic precision for the wheel (rather than high precision one), the scrolling may appear less smooth than intended.  This again has been addressed for future updates.
