GC4 EA Feedback Live Branch | VERSION 0.45.188724a

How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

How to tell which version you are on?

Quoting gypsy2299,

If a Developer would give me detailed instructions on how to send save files

I'm not a developer, but typically we put the save file in a file sharing system (I use Dropbox) and then paste a link to it here in the forums. That allows the developers to download the file from the file sharing system.

End of Publius's quote

Thanks, but I was hoping for away to not have to add more junk to my computer. If I could locate the save file I could copy it and paste to the forum I believe. If not I am not sure I want to try as I was reluctant to join Discord for the same reason, too much trash on my puter as is.

A clarification needed. In the options menu there are sliders for various icons but no popup explaining them.

Is this a way to adjust the level at which icons replace the graphics on the map? If so which way do I move the slider to make them show up sooner, hopefully while I can still see the Grid?

Derek it is reply 49 that I asked you about.

Game still doesn't recognize any customized text you place in the faction screen when building the game.  I customized the terrans text but still shows the default text when the game launches.  There also needs to be a copy/paste/delete all option in those text boxes so one doesn't need to retype things each time they create a new faction.

Per the changelog for .45  This is for version 0.45.188724

AI players won't start as close to the human player...  (Really)?

Is it possible they could have started any closer?

Also states

Decreased the number of players that start in the players starting sector.

I'm still getting up to 3 other factions in my starting sector.  Why is this in the largest of maps with the most sectors?  Is the game not big enough for 16 factions to each be in their own starting sector?  I can understand maybe 1 but not more than that with a game this big...  Please explain.

Sure you did, but did you click the Check mark after you edited? Have caught myself doing that.

Also until they activate custom factors you can copy paste your description in documents on your computer.

It's a pita but saves retyping each game. This has worked for me before.

Gotcha. We have been playing with those values internally. For example, it's crazy that the anomalies show up when you are zoomed so far out.

You are supposed to be able to change those sliders to adjust when different icons fadeout.

The game certainly has room to place each player in their own sector. But what we found (for most players) is that going 100 turns without ever running into anyone (because they are in other sectors) is very boring.

I customized the leader for the terrans, but still shows DL Bradley....

Yes, the text is boring such as this is a test.

Lol, you got me.  I guessing that is a rip against my feedback post about the first 100 turns being boring.  However, I do think there may be different ways of doing this.

@Larsenex suggested maybe creating an option determining how many factions start in your home sector.  I like that option.  Goes along with other customized settings in the game.

Scratch this post... I was proven incorrect :D

Derek, there should be a option, having to fight 4 opponents in your own sector before turn 50 is boring to me. Not seeing Alien Scum till my 500 logistic point fleets can roll over them like a M-47 tank over a Volkswagen Beetle ( GI stole a tank in Germany years ago) is not boring.

Derek what I am trying to point out is some of us like to and have the time to play 4X Games, not War Games. We should have the option especially since GalCiv is advertised as a 4X game.

If others want to play Whack-a-Mole they can play with more majors, 2K if their puters can handle it. Even play on smaller maps.

This should be the players option. Want a setup that resembles a NYC sidewalk okay with me. However let me have mine my way, like where I live the nearest towns are 27, 40, 45, and 50 miles all in different directions/sectorsB) and all including my town have less than 10,000 pop.

Derek if I chose both the Explorer trait and the +2 explore option for +45 range shouldn't I be able to explore my full home sector?

Has happened twice I have started near the north end of the sector and the far south is out of range. Huge, Galaxy setting.

I have had several events now that were supposed to give me an new Ideology including the Culture Point needed to do them. However, for at least most of those events, I did not get the Culture Point and so was unable to get the choice of an Ideology.

You get choices?

Everyone I have gotten just selects the next in the que granted I have yet to get to a multiple choice level.

Intuitive requires 5 points to open line three which is the first with two in that one it auto gave me the first two on start.

Say you get your first equality point if you go to the idol. window you should see a 1 on that slider and if you look at the list the first one should be (and this is a visual problem) a bit brighter, personally think the picture should be circled with a different color.

The Planetary Invasion Tech now lists the possibility of a Passenger Ship design, although it should probably also required the ability to build Medium Hulls. After I researched both, I did not find a Core design for a Passenger Ship, but I already had a personal Design for a Passenger ship that puts a Colony Module and a Troop Module in a Medium Hull (you need 6 slots to carry both Modules, therefore you need a Medium Hull. a Cargo Hull only has 5 slots).

I suggested this design a couple of days ago in the Discord and pointed out that it could be designed and built. It can carry 1 or 2 Population Points (actually they will appear to be Soldiers) and has to carry at least one population. but you can move a net one population point per round trip in either direction. It is still a little awkward to use, but it is better than nothing for moving Population around between planets. Although it is not so necessary in 0.45, since Colonies seem to stop with only 1 population and not several population who were eating a lot of your food.

I used a similar idea in GC 3 where a Colony module could carry 1 to 3 population in either direction, so it could move a net 2 population per round trip in GC 3. OR  2 Colony Modules on one ship in GC 3 could carry 1 to 6 population points.

I have gotten several events that had three choices, like many of the colonization events, and choosing any of the 3 choices should have given me a Culture Point so I could choose an Ideology. If an I can get the Culture Point I have several places where I could choose an Ideology.

One of those events happened to me just after I started the 3rd year in my 0.45 game, it was basicly an event for reaching that point in the game. I did not get the Culture Point that it said I should get.

To be clear, I am talking about not getting the CULTURE POINT that I need to choose one of those Ideologies in the various Ideology Tracks. I have enough choices made to be able to chose from several of those tracks.

I have been making lots of choices during my surveying that have moved me along various of the 7 Ideology tracks, so I could chose one of them, IF I could get a Culture Point.

Just wanted to be sure you were not missing it because of the poor UI in the idol. screen.

Have seen posts in many forums, and has happened to me ,where things were missed that were in sight if sometimes obscured by the clutter. I have never played Victoria II because the UI is so cluttered with useless garbage as to render it undecipherable to me. Ah well Ricky was better anyway.

Suggestions: In the screens where there is a "Sentry" button where a ship or fleet stays in one spot for the time being, add a "Patrol" button where the ship or fleet goes back and forth between two points. I think it would also be good to optionally use waypoints with like <ctrl click> would define more than two points for the ship or fleet to follow.

I think that choosing one of the those 3 Options, in the events that I was refering to, also is adding 1 point to one side of one of the 7 tracks in Ideology, which determines which choices are available to you to take/choose when you expend a Culture Point. Without Culture Points, Ideology is unusable.

added: I see that GC IV test branch, has downloaded a new version that is supposed to fix this problem , so that we get the missing Culture Point with these events.

My thoughts after playing a game on 0.45 for 16 hours:

  1. Control N does not save custom game settings when used.

  2. Spore trait does not seem to work yet or I have no idea how to use charges to bring life to a dead world.

  3. Many of the traits with bonus technologies do not seem to have those tech trees in the game. Can we gray out the ones not coded yet.....

  4. Ideology selections in anomalies need to be adjusted and more events created. You get the same options over and over. Also the most useful selection is normally not the ideology I am trying to work on. After 700 turns I only have 3 culture points to use. Most of the ideology branches had zero level in them.

  5. Add tool tips to ideology selections to show what current level, how much it would improve, and what it would harm. I have a hard time remembering all the ideology branches and which harms or helps my goal.

  6. Not happy with the default settings of planet sizes. If I play on a huge map with all max settings I should be able to have a good 8 core worlds in a starting sector. I edited this more to my liking and love the game play but for testing I was told not too.

  7. AI does not seem to fleet up. We only get 1 fight per turn now and sitting next to an AI home planet killing the 50 tiny ships they have stacked on each other is boring and a waste of time.

  8. The artifact that grants 2 tiles, does not always grant 2 tiles and does not change the class level of the planet.

  9. The quest system is not very user-friendly or explains what needs to be done to accomplish the quest. Also not nearly enough quests to grant culture points. A time limit on the amount of turns these are active to help motivate me into getting them done.

  10. Also I need a button to click to view my default race selection, It should display all my starting settings. This is how it took me so long to figure out control N was not saving my settings. I have no way in game of seeing if my custom race is built the way I want it.

  11. Mass removal almost made me never play the game again. One of the things I love about GC is the ability to build very specialized ships to counter the AI. I am unable to build any of my default combat ships with this new module slot design. I mean I can see why you went there the AI could never build a ship or fleet to beat a good human player. But this new system please tell me if you have plans to add technologies to increase the size of the modules on a ship. Or at least tell me the Hyperion Shrinker adds slots vs lower mass cost in this game.

Forgot one...

  1. I do not think any of the race tech trees are in the game yet. In GC3 these were removed from the races and added to the trait selections. I assumed CG4 was going to do the same. The trait descriptions say they unlock technologies but I have yet to see any of them unlock in a game.

New bug... Current game, survey ship has lost it's sentry option, It's still there but will not allow me to re-engage it. (was present in previous builds.) https://www.dropbox.com/s/pocbi1ia6v5mjxg/45Test02.GC4Sav?dl=0
