Fences 3.1 Tester Solicitation

Fences 3.1

We have a maintenance update for Fences in the oven and want to start testing with some select clients.

What we are looking for are clients that:

  • Use Fences 3 on a daily basis
  • Have used Fences over multiple versions
  • Have participated in Fences forum threads in the past \ posted issue of their own (please provide links)
  • Use the majority of its feature set (folder portals, rules, etc)
  • Have Fences installed on PCs with multiple monitors
  • Not mandatory, but a bonus, have Fences installed in corp environments (testing should NOT be done on production PCs)
  • Willing to commit to regular/often feedback via private forum
  • Can create detailed reports of issues fortified with screenshots \ video

If you find you meet these, please post here and we will select a few for a private invite.

Again, this is a maintenance release so it will mainly be testing fixes and not focused on new features.

Thanks

Hello,

If It's possible I would like to test and report it. You may count me in.

I've been using it for almost 5 years,

I left it because my second monitor is 4k and its lagging badly.

Are you able to comply with the requirements (lots of feedback is what we are really looking for)?

Yes, i am a developer as well, so I should be able to supply useful feedback.  Also, i have used since version 2, and i have multiple monitors (with different DPI scaling settings)

I have a situation were my laptop is a standard HD screen but when I plug into my docking station the monitors I use are 4K and the fences to scale correctly, they usually overlap and move into positions that make it difficult to reposition each time.  I would be nice if there was some sort of layout memory for different resolutions.  I dont mind setting it up once but the next time I plug in a 4k screen I would like to to remember size and position.  Same in reverse when I move back to the laptop screen that is just HD to do the same.

Can I please be able to test this version as well.   I tick most of the boxes above, multiple monitors multiple machines, cooperate hardware as well, I work in the IT industry as a DevOps Engineer.

You should be using this if you are not:

Then create Snapshots for each situation you are in (one for single monitor, others for more monitors).

If that works as a solution (it should), let me know.

Should I turn off the automatic snapshots as I usually only use the laptop screen sparingly.

Its up to you, just name yours accordingly so they are easily identified.

If you want to support this further, please create a new thread as I would like to keep this one on topic.

Any chance I could get in on the beta?

I used Fences back in Q3-Q4 2019, and gave up due to frustrations with touchpad support. I did, however, use it daily with rules, multiple pages and folder portals to organise my (now very messy) Desktop. I've participated a little on these forums in touchpad topics (https://forums.stardock.com/497894/page/2/#3804954), and have screenshot tools, a bit of GitHub experience (https://github.com/darthagnon) and multiple family computers (one of which is dual-monitor) with multiple DPI settings and resolutions.

While we would welcome more testers, and despite much effort being put into resolving issues with some touchpads, we are not able to provide relief there.

Hi, I use Fences every day from the 2.0 version (we are a software house). I use it when my XPS 9500 is plugged in my office docking with two 4k display and directly on the notebook main monitor.

I've also suggested a keystroke feature for the snapshots in the upcoming 4.0 because when I plug-in my docking (changing the main monitor without restarting), despite whatever layout auto-adjustments I select, the icons  doesn't moves to the new primary monitor and I have to manually recall the right snapshot every time I change my monitor configuration.

Any chance I could get in on the beta?

While this may not change, that you have to re-apply a snapshot after using a docking station (that's one of the things it for), there have been monitor updates.

That said, I will send you an invite to MS Teams. Once you accept the invite, Ill will get you in the proper channel.

Thank you for the participation.

Thanks Sean for this opportunity. I accepted the invitation but I'm still waiting for the activation to be completed because currently I only see the general welcome channel.

I used Fences for a while previously but have been unable to use 3.09 due to the bug where the desktop icons outside of fences are not able to be rearranged.  Would be willing to test to see if this issue has been fixed.
