45 seconds to load icons

It is taking about 45-seconds to fill in the icons using Fences 3.0.9.11.

This recently began, so I uninstalled and reinstalled.

That didn't help so disableed about everything I can on 32-bit Windows 10 Version 2004(OS Build 19041.870)

It is a Fences issues since the icons load immeidately without Fences.  I have about 60 icons.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I believe that is because Windows delay 3rd party software from starting up. You can refer to this for solutions : https://www.howtogeek.com/403162/how-to-disable-the-windows-10-startup-delay/

Thanks

I had to add the key and reboot.  It now takes minutes to load the icons.

If I disable fences the icons instantly load.

If I disable fences then reenable fences it takes about 20 seconds to load the icons.

I highly doubt this is a fences issue, but something changed.

support81 ...when you use Fences the normal Desktop Icons displaying is held back until the full OS Boot Sequence is completed.  Microsoft wants third party software to load only after that.  The actual boot time difference for the OS is around 0.2 of a second... not enough to notice.

The curious thing is....if that Desktop Icon is a third party program it actually makes no difference to the time of loading of the program as the icon may be displayed sooner..but clicking on it will be held until the OS finishes booting anyway..

Result...without Fences the program will load at the end of Boot.

With Fences the program will load 0.2 seconds after Boot. [as Fences is also loading].

If you ran sidebar gadgets [as I do] they too do not appear till after the entire Boot sequence.

Post Windows 7, Microsoft wanted to give the impression the New OS's were faster and more snappy...so prioritised the desktop display loading to make it 'look finished'.

The trick is...Boot your system with and without Fences....and watch when the drive access light finishes in both...;)

Did a clean install of Windows 10 32-bit.

System takes 12-seconds from the logon to fill the fence Windows Defender (1 fence with 27 icons.)
If I turn off Windows Defender it is about 4-seconds.   I'm guessing a folder could be excluded.
