Small but annoying problem with ObjectDock--please help! :(

What file is your shortcut pointing to?

Should be C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\ObjectDock.exe

Yikes, are you guys still around? It's happening again...

Shortcut is in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" and points to "C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\ObjectDock.exe". There's also a setting in the shortcut properties called "Start In" and its value is "C:\PROGRA~1\Stardock\OBJECT~2".

'Start in' should be "C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock". Delete the shortcut altogether and then create a new one . Use the wizard that pops up and point to C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\ObjectDock.exe. Should work fine...........

I'm stumped why you would me getting long file name variants in XP. You are using XP and OD version .99....correct?

Ok...if it wants to play that game, then let's play. Make shortcut command read "C:\progra~1\stardock\object~1\object~1. exe". Make 'start in' "C:\progra~1\stardock\object~1

That didn't work, so I tried re-installing ObjectDock. The installer created a shortcut in the startup folder this time with the correct settings ("C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock" and "C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\ObjectDock.exe"). However, the configuration window is still popping up on startup.

In Start menu bring up 'run'. Type "msconfig" and click ok. Under 'startup' scroll down and see what is set to run on startup. Should only be one reference to Object Dock. If there are two then un-check one (should read as I noted in #11)

Sounds like a promising solution, but when I uncheck one of the two instances, the other one also is unchecked. If I re-check it, they both are re-checked. For the location field, one is "Common Startup" and the other is just "Startup". Any idea?

"Common Startup" is the one to get rid of. My guess is you have two OD shortuts. In 'all users' (documents and settings) go to startup folder in start menu and see if there is a shortcut. Do the same for 'your(user)' folder and see if there's another one there. Delete one of them (doesn't matter which). Let me know.........

OK, I went in again and unchecked the "Common Startup" one. The program is not loading on startup now, and the option for the "Startup" one has disappeared (the "Common Startup" one is still in there but is unchecked). I double checked in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup <-- One OD shortcut exists.
C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\Start Menu\Programs\Startup <-- I get a message stating that this path doesn't exist.

Good morning.......delete the shortcut in the start menu. Then move the OD shortcut in 'all users' to 'nick'.If it's already gone, then make a new one in 'nick' folder. The new shortcut will then show in your start menu. Re-boot. Should work

The program didn't start up when I did that.

This is like the startup from hell...........make sure OD shortcut shows in 'Startup" folder in the Start menu and go back into 'msconfig' and check OD to start on startup.

I would have thrown the PC across the room by now...

how about format and reinstall everything?

I think you have two versions of Object Dock installed. I would uninstall the old one too. Once everything is uninstalled, then check msconfig and see if all the shortcuts are gone before reinstalling. If not delete them and make sure the references to them are gone from msconfig. GL.

I had that problem too. And I guess you probably had both versions trying to load. The problem is that each version installs to a different folder instead of the new version just updating files in same folder. I guess you got some sort of cross link between the different versions.

Once you uninstall everything, both versions, check add and remove programs and try deleting the object dock folders too, before reinstalling. Make sure all shortcuts are gond too. Mine is working properly. If you need the setup just reply. GL

I fixed it. If anyone has this problem in the future and happens to stumble upon this thread, here's what I did:
(1) Downloaded Startup Control Panel: http://download.com.com/3000-2094-1539340.html?tag=lst-0-3
(2) Went into Start->Control Panel->Startup
(3) Clicked the "Startup (Common)" tab
(4) Right clicked the ObjectDock icon and clicked Send To->HKLM (Run)
(5) Closed the program and restarted to see if it worked.

Again, I'd like to thank you all for your assistance. Although ultimately I solved it myself, it's nice to see that people actually care. See y'all around.
