Saving a file to a specific Fence

When I download a file and save it to a specific location can I, at that time, direct it to a specific Fence or do I have to assign it to a Fence later?

Hello,
You can set Fences rule so send files/icons/document to any fence of your choice. For example if you want all files that name "testxxx.xxx" to a specific Fence.

  1. Open Fences Configuration Windows.
  2. Go to Sorting & Organizing
  3. Click on "Send certain file types to different places"
  4. Edit a rule.
  5. 1st column: By name - 2nd Column: Contains - 3rd Column: Type in "test"
  6. Click "Ok"
  7. Give the new rule Description/Name
  8. The new rule will appear on your "Name-based rules"
  9. Click on the blue "choose a Fence"->Drop down menu will appear and all your fences name will appear there and you can choose where all the file with name with "test" in it, will go there every time it move to Desktop.

Hope that help.

Thank you Basj

I will have to start using that logic. I was hoping that I could do it through the Save interface and somehow indicate a fence but the Name-based rule will, I'm sure, serve me well. Just one more thing to remember.

Hi -

I have created and applied many rules in the past. Lately when i create a new rule i am unable to select target fence...

i will see my new rule in the list but when i click on the 'choose a fence' the only option is 'delete rule'.

i seem to be having some issues lately that i have never had before. i admit that many have been user errors - but this puzzles me.

(I'm really not an idiot, i promise... i just have real bad memory issues!)

Rewind...

i've got it, though it does seem a little a** - backwards

but wait....  i still don't get anything when i click on the 'choose a fence' in the rules section. i must be doing something either wrong or 'the hard way'.

so sorry for all the messages... i thought i had it but i guess not.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Could you post a video on this issue. I will try recreate it on my system.

Thanks
