Win7 I changed desktop location from one drive to another = all 300 icons are in one fence now

I saved the desktop layout first, then changed drive desktop location in win7, rebooted, all icons moved to one fence, so I went to layout and clicked on "restore" the one I saved but no change.  I noticed in the layout display, that the current bad layout was there named "pre-install."

I tried to fix it in the registry under HKCU stardock in the Initial and icon keys by changing them to the correct new desktop folder location rebooted but still all in one fence.  I rechecked the registry and all icons in both those keys are correct.

I still have all the icons in the older folder so I assume I could go back to that by changing the location in both the "initial and Icon" keys??

What do do now?

Thanks

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Fences icon locations are stored in absolute paths so when you manually moved them to another location, of course, Fences would not know where to put them.

Layouts and registry are different.  Layouts read from their own data and the registry accepts them once applied.

To be honest, the option of least pain is to re-setup your Fences manually.
