Groupy 1.44 Changlog:

  • Small tweak for a possible crash if Groupy was turned off very quickly after being turned on.
  • If a window has a blank caption it will paint the close tab button correctly now
  • If a window is not responding it should no longer leave the group when moved. It cannot be resized though or added to a group
  • Tweaks which may address an issue with leftover tab bars on-screen in edge cases

I just downloaded and updated my groupy. But when I run Fortnite, the BattlEye Launcher is blocking Groupy_32.dll and Groupy_64.dll which causes my game to crash. Can I rollback to the previous version?

Windows 10

batteye launcher

What exactly is crashing and when?  Is there an error message or log in eventlog?

Those messages typically mean they have a sandbox for the game but it shouldn't crash, just tell you they blocked the load.  Quite why it would flag both I cannot say as only one would load depending on if the game is 32 or 64 bit.

Excuse my inexperience with Fortnite but we're trying to reproduce this error in house. Seems that the game uses both Battleye and Easy Anti Cheat?

If I run FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping_BE.exe manually, I am able to reproduce your screenshot. Is that what you are doing as well?

Even though I get the error messaging, the game does continue to launch and I get into the menus.

Any additional insight on your process would be helpful, thanks!

Hi,

With Groupy 1.44 I no longer can group Visual Studio Code automatically when a new window is opened. It is working on 1.43 but not on 1.44. Everytime I open a new window its opening as a new window and did not get added to the same group. I have Code.exe in my Auto Group list.

Windows 10 x64 20H2 Build 608

Visual Studio Code 1.50.1 Stable Channel

Just open VSCode and try to open another. It will not be grouped even if you choose Group them forcefully as a group.

Same here: https://forums.stardock.com/502130/problems-with-groupy

Explorer works but not others.

For example, If I open WinRAR 2 times. First one's title becomes empty. And not grouped:

Unless I am doing something you are \ not, I cannot reproduce the issue:

Try deleting the Code.exe auto-grouping from the Settings -> Application Grouping menu and recreating it as I did in the video.

Here is the new video. As you can see WinRAR at first gives issues. And then suddenly started to work. Seems random.

I always "open a new window" feature of project manager. This was always open new window with grouped. But it seems its not get grouped anymore.

As stated prior:

https://forums.stardock.com/502031/get;3791394

VS Code works to auto group. While WinRAR will group, there does seem to be an issue with auto grouping it:

We will look into it.

Thanks for the hint.

In my case, only Explorer windows were giving me some trouble as at Windows boot they were sometimes not all grouped.

I hope that forcing automatic grouping like your video will avoid it for happening again.

Regarding WinRAR and other apps, I do not have any issue since ever about auto grouping windows of the same app, even without forcing the executable like in your video.

Cheers.

I could group mstsc.exe at 1.42.

I cannot group mstsc.exe at 1.44.

If I group mstsc.exe at 1.44, only one remote desktop session is in the group and the previous remote desktop session disappears.

I am using many remote desktop session and groupy 1.42 was very useful for me.

v1.44 broke automatic application grouping of PDFXEdit.exe for me, both for manually grouping and AlwaysGroupIdentical. Trying to delete the entry and then recreate it leads to the list staying empty (no new entry created). Deleting Groupy's registry entry to start anew did not help, nor did manually entering a registry entry for PDFXEdit.exe (entry does show up in the list then, but still doesn't work).

How do we downgrade to an older version until this is solved?

Downgraded to v1.43 via Steam installation, automatic grouping works again. I will just keep away from the update until this is fixed. Thanks and regards.

You have to close the Groupy UI and reopen for that to refresh.

Hi Sean,

I know you somehow need to reproduce this behavior. However, If I was the only reported I would say it is my fault. 2 person than this is a coincidence but now I see third person on the same issue. (I'm not sure on last reported but If it's the same tho.). Could you please revert what you did on 1.44? I'm pretty sure you guys using some kind of Git or SVN. Could you or other developers inspect what's changed and may cause this issue?. Believe me, I have 2 machines with Groupy installed and I tried 1.43 against 1.44. 1.44 does not group VScode or some apps properly but 1.43 does it very well. I will not install 1.44 and later until this get solved.

Please also note that. If you double click on VSCode shortcut it groups. IF you open second VSCode editor from VSCode (like an extension that opens another window) it just doesn't work. Also If you start VSCode by double-click on Desktop icon then start an another VSCode instance via keyboard shortuct assigned to the exe, it just doesn't work.

Indeed we do, it's the first order of business in any troubleshooting schema.

And why we are trying to see what is common to each or what you all are doing (and to what) that is causing the behavior. We did find an issue with WinRAR (which could be the app itself) but every other app mentioned we can not reproduce (on multiple PCs).

Quoting gencer1, reply 22

End of gencer1's quote

No, that is not how this works.  If there is indeed an issue, it needs to be fixed...

What extensions and what is the exact path \ exe it is calling? Could you produce a video and post a shared link (GoogleDrive, OneDrive, DropBox) to it?

Also If you start VSCode by double-click on Desktop icon then start an another VSCode instance via keyboard shortuct assigned to the exe, it just doesn't work.

This is me trying that example as written:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2020-11-02_11-11-34.mp4

In it, I am:

  • Opening up VSCode from a shortcut on the desktop (no arguments)
  • Using our app, Keyboard Launchpad, to open VSCode from the assigned keyboard shortcut (again, no arguments)

The last one (KB shortcut) failed initially, it opened up in a new window, but as you can see in the video, it worked every time after - I am uncertain why or if I did something different and just did not notice.

If I am not doing something you are, tell me what that is please, and Ill test it.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the detailed answer! Then lets do it in right way. Let me record a valid reproducible actions and send it to you. Including which extension is used. To make sure everything is clear, I will going to install a virtual machine and install VSCode there. I will also only install this specific extension that opens a new window inside VSCode so nothing can interfere.

I will upload it ASAP.

Thanks,

Gencer.

Sean, one more thing. When you especially mentioned about arguments. Can you please try as like below:

Code: asp.net
  1. Code.exe --disable-renderer-accessibility

Here properties dialog:

Screenshothttps://www.screencast.com/t/XrT4DVzvw

And here is keyboard shortcut. I am using HotkeyP:

Screenshothttps://www.screencast.com/t/4tfWBlAoxP

HotkeyP: http://petr.lastovicka.sweb.cz/others.html

---

VSCode Extension Used:

Projects+https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=fabiospampinato.vscode-projects-plus

After install this extension open a folder, Use F1 and find "Projects+: Save" and save the folder. Now close VSCode. Open another folder and try to open previously saved folder from sidebar by right click and click "Open a New Window"

Please note that, with this argument, and with this extension, Groupy 1.43 does the job very well.

Greets..

Having issues with 1.44 and wondering where I might, for now, download the older version?  I use the StarDock object desktop app and have no older versions saved/downloaded.  I'm sure I'll come back but having lots of non-grouped apps and while I've added some and they indeed continue to work; others are having issues and the way things going today at work I rather just go back than spend time config/debug right now.  Thanks!

The argument does not make a difference but I found the pattern of what makes it fail, for VSCode and WinRAR, and how to fix it.

For the test:

This 'workaround' should suffice until I can glean from the devs if this is intended behavior of it there is something that needs addressing.

Thanks for the feedback and testing.

Thanks. The procedure is different. I was using always group with mtmstsc.

I will try your procedure.
