Right-Click Start Button Corner Functionality Request

right-clicking the very corner of the screen near the start button should pull up the Win+X menu

I have been using Start 8 for years, and have recently installed Start 10 on a few PCs and noticed a missing feature in Start 10 that I'd like to request.

In Start 8, if you right-click the Start button, you get the small menu that includes the "Configure Start 8..." option. But if you put the cursor in the very corner (near the start button, but not the button itself), and right-click, you get the Win+X menu with the Computer Management, Command Prompt, and other very useful options. It's extremely useful to be able to get to the Start 8 settings as well as the Win+X menu depending on where you click.

Start 10 is missing this feature. Clicking in the very corner brings up the Start 10 options, instead of the Win+X button. I know you can change it so clicking the start button brings up the Win+X menu. But I don't want to have to choose between the Start 10 options and the Win+X menu. I want both, just like in Start 8.

Please implement this change, if possible.

Thanks!

Basj,

Thanks for your reply. That setting changes the functionality of right-clicking the start button. I want right-clicking the start button to keep the Start 10 menu, but clicking in the corner to bring up the Win+X button.

That is how it works with Start 8 on Win8.1. It allows users to go to the Start 8 config or the Win+X menu, depending on where they right-click. It's a small difference, but one example where Start 10 is not as good as its predecessor.

If you want to see what I mean, this quick video shows right-clicking on the start button, and then in the corner (on a PC with Start 8). It offers better usability than Start 10. https://photos.app.goo.gl/bAVYCUYV377HzWF6A

Thanks again.

This was never a specific feature of Start 8, it was the OS bottom corner hotspot overriding Start 8.  Windows 10 dropped those hotspots.

If you use the mode suggested you can still get to a config option by right clicking a blank area on the start menu.

Neil,

I suspected that the functionality in Windows 8 was accidental, but it's actually a good feature. This is why I opened the ticket to request the change in Start 10, if possible. Maybe the Start 10 overlay can begin like 4 pixels away from the edge of the screen.

I understand if it's not possible to make the change, but wanted to suggest it in case it would be relatively easy to implement in a future update.

I do appreciate the tip of right-clicking a blank space after the start menu opens.

Thanks again,

-Evan
