Start10 search misses many results, until a reboot

Hello

When I use the start10 search bar, at the bottom of the start10 menu, it will seemingly randomly stop showing all search result.
It will start showing only a subset of results. Rebooting the computer solves the problem, for a while; but then after a few minutes or hours the problem will come back.

Here's an example:
If I type the letter "c" in the Start10 search bar, then:
When it works properly:   It shows about 30 results, including CCleaner, Google Chrome & Camera Roll.
When it stops working properly:   It only shows 14 hits and DOESN'T include Cleaner, Google Chrome & Camera Roll.

Here are screen shots of the above search results.

On the left, is the correct behavior                           On the right is the wrong behavior

Another example is a search for the word "Features"

On the left, is the correct behavior                           On the right is the wrong behavior

VERY IMPORTANT CLUES.
1. Rebooting the computer fixes the issue, for a while
2. Using Windows10 search, directly, works correctly

Whatever solution you suggest, it must take the above clues in to account.
You might be tempted to suggest an indexing issue, or changing a windows10 search setting. But the above clues rule these things out.
Also, ENABLING the Start10 setting "Search should include files outside the standard libraries" makes no difference.

I have a brand new computer (5 days old and fully patched) with windows 10 build 2004 (20H1)
I experienced the problem with Start10 versions 1.75 and 1.94 (I didn't try any other versions)
I'm an experienced computer professional

Hello,
I have forwarded your questions/problems to the Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

BTW, would like to know, how long it takes for that issue started to be noticeable for you?

Thank You,

Given the change in results my gut says this is indeed linked to the indexing service.

In the event the indexing service is detected as not running (This is WSearch as the service name), Start10 will swap to a limited search mode.  This is because to attempt to search without that can be extremely slow.

The next time it happens can you check if that service is actually running.

Also is this a laptop or a desktop or tablet as I am wondering if something is 'saving power' and stopping things.

As a test you can also force Start10 into this mode via the following registry key.

Location : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8

Name : NoIndexer

This should be REG_SZ format with a value of 1 in it.  After testing to disable this mode delete the key or set to 0.

Do the results you get even after a reboot match those you get after the problem occurs exactly?

Hi Neil

Thank you for responding so quickly.

I verified that the Windows Search service was running when I experienced the problem.

I have a Lenovo P520 Desktop Workstation, and I'm using the "High Performance" power plan, to make sure that nothing goes in to sleep/power-saving mode.

I temporarily added the "NoIndexer"key to the registry set it to 1, and rebooted.
The search results that I get when Start10 is in "non-indexing" mode are not those that I get when Start10 misbehaves.
