Taking a break from Twitter

It's funny how Twitter started out claiming it was a messaging service.  And yet, over the years, it has become as moderated, often with a political bias to its moderation, as any community forum.

I wonder if it might be worth putting in effort on JoeUser.com.  Before there was Facebook or Twitter, we had JoeUser which was intended to be a place where people could easily share their thoughts with friends.

Seems like you are taking things personally Frogboy.  I expressed no hate of "the other side".

The motivation of the messenger (with respect to Twitter here) explains much of the content of the message.

I also wish to add that states considering allowing expanded mail-in voting were doing so as a contingency in the event November brought a large pandemic outbreak.

Quoting Frogboy,

If I want to listen to people who know little about a given topic

So, hmm the only possible explanation for those who have opinions different from your own is the above uhh?

End of BigDogBigFeet's quote

Some people want to see politics everywhere they go.  I do not.

You were the one who instantly went to "This is a ridiculous and petty justification." as a response.  Should I use my moderation powers to edit your comment based on my opinions like Twitter is doing?

I don't *care* what your opinion is.   I'm not interested in it.  And Twitter is increasingly a dumpster fire of this kind of crap except now, we have the moderators putting their finger on the scales.

If I want to debate politics, I have no shortage of places to go to that where the people are informed on the topics being discussed.

Twitter's policy is up to Twitter.  Are you only interested in opinions that match your own?
End of BigDogBigFeet's quote

You clearly know nothing about me.

BTW, the point I'm making here is that it's not enjoyable to participate on a forum (such as this one in this example) if moderation appears to be selective and biased. I thought Twitter was a messaging service (a social media network).  But it is just another forum whose rules and enforcement are capriciously enforced based on the personal opinions of the moderators.

Hopefully I've made my point.

The problem here is what is opinion and what is fact and who is going to decide between them?

Yes...that's the issue [now] with Twitter.  Wait until vested interests/owners find that one bias hits their hip pocket more than another and their 'bottom line' determines their policies.

Forums such as Joe User aren't moderated by bias, but just for spam.  I do admit to getting squeamish being in the same space as anti-vaxers and flat-earthers, but each to his own.  Stardock's rules re racial discrimination etc still apply.

That was my point.

On Twitter, apparently the moderators are going to decide what is opinion and what is fact.  Just like HERE, our moderators are the ones who do that.  And if you don't agree with the moderators, then suddenly it's a lot less fun isn't it? Just like Twitter has become a lot less fun for me.

The better solution is to not have me or anyone in that position and avoid political debates because, as I said earlier, I don't care what people's political views are. I'm not here for that.  I'm here to discuss tech, customization and games.

I only have one political opinion... that voting should not be compulsory.... like it is here in Australia.  I just don't like being responsible [in part] for the arseholes who get elected, break election promises and generally stuff everything up.

Anti-vaxxers you may bump into now and then, but flat-earthers you're not likely to....they all walked off the edge of the planet while trying to prove their theory.

O:)
