Object Desktop Bug With Firefox

Firefox lags heavily after Object Desktop Install

Howdy folks. After many years, I came back to Stardock desktop tweaking and goodies. My only issue so far is that since installation Firefox is performing exceptionally sluggishly. There were no other application installations for a few days, and Firefox was working correctly up to the installation of OD.

My first thought is that OD somehow interferes with a DX call of some kind. I took off hardware acceleration in Firefox, but it made no difference. Next, I did a full browser refresh, which also yielded no changes.

I am a web designer and WordPress consultant. I need Firefox working 100%!

Do you have any idea why this is happening? Is it one software application within Object Desktop that has an issue? I can uninstall it.

I have all of OD on my PC and use the single installer for the OD suite. I did try to turn off individual apps, but it has not made a difference.

I am confident that there were no previous issues with Firefox. No other apps were at the same time or since. I am using whatever the latest update of all the OD apps are for 5-28-2020.

I am using Firefox version 76.0.1 of the regular release. I use Windows 10 Pro version 1909 with all the latest updates as of above date, too.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, need to know

1) what Stardock's applications under OD Suite you have installed in your pc?

2) When you said "turn off individual apps and not made a difference. Turn off or uninstalled?

3) Could you try uninstall all Stardock's application. Test and install one application at a time and test. Until you found which is the one causing the issue.

Hello. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. After some experimenting, I found that Windows Blinds is the culprit. It was the second app I uninstalled after Tiles and Firefox went back to normal! Also, Curtains came up in my Stardock "launcher" for OD, and I am using it without any issues. Curtains are a better app, IMHO, than Windows Blinds is. Everything seems to be working now without problems!

Great, if you still wish to use Windowblinds, you can exclude Firefox from Windowblinds. By adding it to your per application list.

Hi. I did exclude it, along with Chrome, but it didn't fix the issue. Only uninstalling Windows Blinds works for me.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

With WB installed, but with no skin applied, FF would still run poorly (can you qualify that also please - perhaps with video)?

Hi Sean,

I can assure you that this is the case. However, since I use my workstation for work, I cannot reinstall an app with compatibility issues. I don't have the time to do so, but Windows Blinds does not work correctly with Firefox if it's part of Windows 10 version 1909. I can't speak for other versions of Windows. Also, I am using Windows Pro, which occasionally has different issues than the Home version of Windows.

Interestingly, Curtains were not part of the Object Desktop package installer when I was installing the OD apps. It took two days for it to show up for me. I didn't know it exists! After trying Curtains, it does not cause any of the issues with Firefox and works much better than Windows Blinds in general.

The Curtains app does, however, have several small bugs. For example, it turns off auto-refreshing in Explorer much of the time.

What I mean by this is that the desktop or folders do not automatically update, and you have to hit F5 to see files to folders that are new to the desktop or Explorer.

Here's an image of the Chrome tab in the taskbar with the Drive link. The tab in the taskbar does not update and freezes on a browser tab. In this case, it's locking on the time-tracking app https://www.toggl.com/ that runs a timer in the browser tab. So it may be only for tabs with text that changes. Regardless, Curtains should not freeze the taskbar like this.
