KVM often doesnt register controls until the 2nd time?

So this is an annoyance more than anything.  It seems like half the time when I make a kvm connection, it shows up, but then when i go to click; nothing.

if i close the connection and re-open, the 2nd time it always works perfectly.

Any hypothesis on whats going on?  connecting too fast? too slow?  perhaps related to the WoL misery im experiencing?
