"No suitable decoder found" while K-Lite Mega pack installed

Hi

I have the "No suitable decoder found" Mpeg2 error for two dreams wallpapers (all from CarGuy1) and after having installed the K-Lite Mega pack, still have the same error.

What could be wrong ?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Going to try a couple things first this link for an MPEG-2 Ext. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/mpeg-2-video-extension/9n95q1zzpmh4?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Reboot and Test .

If still issue try changing DS app settings as below in image . to EVR and test if needed try VMR-9 test

Report back here results .

Hi,

I won't go to Microsoft }:) for that download for they ask to subscribe to a Microsoft account x_x to do so, what I WON'T do. But if you download it for me, I'll be glad to install it...  :D

According to 'Installed Codec' app, here are the MPEG2 Codec installed : Mpeg 2

PS : neither EVR nor VMR9 works...

Hello

Would you Please try this PURGE: https://forums.stardock.com/485954/deskscapes-support-faq#reinstalling

Reboot and ReInstall the latest version from your account https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products/

Reboot , test and report back please.

Their should be an update for KLite ... That is an Older Dream that dream might need to be updated .

Can you post me the links to the 2 dreams your having an issue with so I can test them ?

Had to modify your PURGE batch :

C:\Program Files(x86)\Stardock\Deskscapes10 > Removed the red folder that does not exist.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop does not exist...  > not modified.

Ok to execute as modified ?

Why you modify purge .

should not have too.

purge and re I install you are

using C drive right.?

install latest version from your account.

PURGE not executed yet. I can revert the modifications if you want. But as stated, PURGE aim is to delete all pertaining to DS. It assumes a default install in C:\Program Files(x86)\Stardock\Deskscapes10 but I installed it in C:\Program Files(x86)\Deskscapes10, so I deleted the red part in the batch. What say you ?

Yes for C:\ drive installation.

The Purge is NOT a regular uninstall .

just do the Purge with no changes to it .. Reboot

and re install the latest version from your account.

Reboot and test .

It will install itself to C drive. Don't change the installation default setting .

If you have changed the default installation delete that and start

over with a clean install to it's default install .( no changes )

Ok...

I executed the Purge.bat as is then when the message "It is VERY imporant that you now reboot your PC." came with "press any key to continue" under, I pressed any key. DS GUI poped up with the window asking for a registration key or for 30 days trial choice; I "X" the window that closed DS GUI. I then rebooted.

DS is still installed but on calling it, it asks for the registration key or for a 30 days trial. I "X" the window.

C:\Program Files(x86)\Deskscapes10, is still present as I told you, as well as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Stardock\Deskscapes.

C:\Program Files\Stardock\Deskscapes10 has been deleted.

C:\ProgramData\Stardock\ still there but all subfolders have been emptied.

Purge haven't purged DS... or was this intended ?

Haven't reinstalled DS yet...

What say you ?

Best regards

Stargate

PS: I can uninstall DS with the 'Uninstall tool' app I used to install it if needed...

The Purge is NOT a regular uninstall , as I said before

some files remain as intended.

DO NOT change anything .

Purge/Reboot/Install latest version from your account/Reboot

now add key if it ask for it .

Now DeskScapes will be ready for use and testing.

Quit checking stuff your just confusing yourself.

Done !

C:\Program Files(x86)\Stardock\Deskscapes10, added.

C:\Program Files(x86)\Deskscapes10, remains.

I lost all 'Recent' Dreams link in the right panel despite all of them still being in Documents\Stardock\ Dreams\ folder !?

I get no problems with these two dreams and I have the Full version of K-Lite installed (Mega is only necessary for encoding i.e. creating your own videos). As you seem to have a penchant for customising your installations StarGate, might you have selected some different splitters than the defaults when installing K-Lite? I know when I started using it I wanted to go fiddling around but not really understanding much of it I learnt the hard way to leave most of those custom options alone. Takes forever to go through all of them anyway...

When processing video, it's not simply a case of having the right codecs. Windows needs to access them (both video and audio and a means of putting them together etc.) and if that part hasn't been set up 'correctly' or in other words- as most standard builds are, then there's a chance that things won't work. I used to get problems years ago so, as I say, I tend to mostly just leave that stuff alone to the experts nowadays. Standard default directories and settings should work nicely.

As you view new dreams you will re build

your recent dreams section..

Hi MagikGimp,

I think you're right : I shouldn't have installed the "Mega" pack and I fiddled the customized installation without having full grasp of the outcome.

I'll uninstall K-Lite and reinstall the "Standard" pack with default settings but on a different partition.

The only thing I wait to do so is for someone (maybe AzDude) to solve the 'Manage Folders' bug...

When I downloaded almost 100 dreams, they all added themselves in the 'Recent' section without having to set them as wallpaper. It will piss me off having to click on each of them in order to make them appear in the 'Recent' section. But... if the 'Manage Folders' would work, it would be of a tremendous help...

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Are you talking about Animated Dreams or Stills Wallpapers

Show us a screenshot or two or video pointing out what your

issue is .

My Manage Folders works as it should.

Are all your folders your trying to manage located on your " C " drive partion ?

Here are the added folders and they show nothing on the right view panel... %user%\documents\stardock\dreams is full of dreams files and some .jpg and .mp4 videos so... why don't they show ?

And when I download dreams, why don't they show in the 'Animated | Downloaded' section !?

Your issues stem from the changes you made originally .

If Deskscapes is now installed in it's Default location " C "

your Dreams you DL and apply will be located here ... " C ".My Documents/Stardock/Dreams/

( if your downloaded dreams are located somewhere else copy them to

the above location. )

and will populate in the DS app as they should.

Make sure you REBOOT your PC to set locations.

Same goes for your still wallpapers if located on your " C " drive pictures folder.

If you still have further issues report back and i'll pass this on to support on

Monday as they are closed on the weekend .

My original installation was in C:\Program Files(x86)\Deskscapes10

My last reinstall was in the default C:\Program Files(x86)\Stardock\Deskscapes10

In both instances my DLded Dreams went into C:\Users\Thor\Documents\Stardock\Dreams !

Hi guys,

Despite the "No suitable decoder found" Mpeg2 error for the Starburst dream, the problem lies somewhere else than in relation with the MPEG2 decoder for I have another dream that is Mpeg2 based and it works fine. This is something else related to how this dream creator (CarGuy1) made it I guess but... the only way to find out is to contact him and ask him. I can't for his webpage Send Private Message don't work !!! Can somebody get in touch with him and direct him to this forum thread please ?

Many thanks

NOPE... sorry ! clicking a dream file in a folder does install it on the desktop but... does NOT show in the 'Recent' section of DS UI...
