How do you use an icon's Alpha?

i know this is a really lame question but here goes - i downloaded the Snow-E2 icon pack and applied it, but as with any other Icon Packager theme it has terrible fragments arround the icons...
Is there an option i am not seeing that enables "high quality" alpha on windows icons???? is it part of windows settings or icon packager or windows blinds or what? how do i make these icons not look terrible on a dark BG

Go to Display Properies, Click on the Settings Tab, under Color Quality make sure 32bit is selected

Only XP supports alpha blended icons, so I'm presuming you must be using a pre-XP version of Windows.

no im using XP SP1...
i just get fragments of DOOM on the icons

ill try your suggestion ZOdiaq, sounds good thanks

Chris...If your getting white fragments...Right Click on the desktop>ArrangeIconsBy and make sure Lock Web Item on Desktop is not checked

i was on 16 bit color... setting it to 32 bit worked like a charm! thanks for the help, much appreciated
