where are folders that are rolled up?
Where do files and folders reside on the hard drive when rolled up on the desktop?

They are not moved or stored any place different than their originating locations. It is just a way of keeping the desktop even more organized.
Hello,
Not too sure what was asking for. But as far as I know. The folders and files will always be at the same location in your hard drive. If you Desktop files will be in your desktop folders "C:\Users\username\Desktop" and if its the Portal Fences, the files is still at its original location. When the Fences rolled up its only the icons get hidden but the files on your hard drive are not effected.

The motherboard on my laptop failed. I pulled the hard drive and connected it to a Tripp-Lite HD reader. I can find all my Documents and the files and folders that were showing on my desktop at the time of the crash but can't locate folders and files that were rolled up in a fence at the time of the crash. Can't make any sense of it. Any advice offered would be appreciated.
When you plug in your HD look for users/(your name)/desktop. Your name is the computers name. It will probably say you don't have permission and click Continue and choose Desktop.
Unless you had actual folders of data, etc. ON the desktop, the ones in Fences are usually only shortcuts pointing TO the folders, not the folders themselves.
Take me, for example. I have 8 folders in a fence that are actually just "shortcuts" to 8 folders on my E drive. So, if anything happens to that fence, the folders are still on the E drive.
