Object Desktop renewal

Back in 2016 I bought Object Desktop for Windows 10. I only really wanted WindowBlinds and Start10 but I figured I might as well get the full works.

About a year later I was disappointed to be asked to pay a renewal fee - but as it happened, Windows 10 itself was very unreliable back then so I decided to abandon it (as well as Object Desktop). But I'm now taking another look at Windows 10.

On a different PC I've been using WindowBlinds and Start8 without ever needing to pay any extra fees. So does Object Desktop still require an annual fee (and if so, should I just stick with WindowBlinds and Start10 ?)

Hello,

From what I understand, you can still use all the software that came with OD you bought back in 2016. You just need to re-subscribe if you need the latest versions of those software. As long as have your saved copy of those product from back then. You can install it and test it out.

Thank you,

Yes, it looks like I've still got my original installers. Of course, how well they'll work with a more modern Win10 remains to be seen - but at least I can give it a try!

Many thanks for the prompt reply.

Okay - it's taken quite a few months but I eventually decided to re-install WindowBlinds yesterday. Maybe this is a dumb question but are there different versions for 32-bit and 64-bit? I noticed that my installer placed WindowsBlinds into C:\Program Files (x86) which generally means it's 32-bit (although Win10 on my system is 64-bit). And to my horror, it trashed Win10 making it unbootable!!

Fortunately I was able to boot into Safe Mode and fix the problem - but when I went back to Stardock's site and tried to re-download WindowBlinds, I wasn't asked if I wanted 32-bit or 64-bit. So I'm a bit reluctant to re-install it now without knowing if it's the right version...

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. From what I know there is no 32-bit or 64-bit version. But, I have forwarded your question to Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Thanks Basj - here's a bit more info....

The version I installed yesterday was the one I originally paid for (back in 2016). So this morning, I tried installing the very latest WindowBlinds (ver 10.8.0). It still installed into C:\Program Files (x86) but this time it didn't crash my system! So it looks like the latest version works okay.
