weather docklet

I would like to know why Stardock just doesn't come out and state its intentions on whether or not it will be fixed....I tired of seeing Feed not availiable...Man tell the truth.

Buying any more software from Stardock is off the menu, no matter how cheap it is....

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

But as stated in a couple previous Threads , there is No Plan at this time

for a Weather Docklet fix.

Actually AZDude, I would like you to find me that statement as I don't recall anyone out and out stating that there is no plan to fix the docklet, only that it will be looked into - if you do find that statement, I apologize, because, despite reading all the posts about the Weather Docklet, I never came across it. However, if you are officially now stating that there is no intention to fix it, thanks, at least we now know.  Why not give the program and scripts out to the freeware community and let them take it from here. After all, it takes a network...

"There are no imminent releases pending for ObjectDock at this time." has been interpreted by me and I think most readers of that post to refer to ObjectDock itself, and not refer to any quick fixes for any of the docklets, and most every comment in that thread that followed that post supports this misapprehension... Thank you for clarifying and unclear statement.

And again I suggest that if it IS abandonware, why not let the community at large take a crack at making a fix for the docklet? And, since ObjectDock IS abandonware, stop offering it for sale on the website, implying to any new customers that this is something that is still a running and developing application.

"stop offering it for sale on the website, implying to any new customers that this is something that is still a running and developing application."

It still works on Win 7 & 8.1 and some 10. People are still using these older OS's. I don't get it, just because the weather docklet doesn't work people want to uninstall it and criticize StarDock for not fixing it. It still does what it's supposed to do, it organizes your short cuts. The docklets are just a bonus.

Oh, I would say most people find the ObjectDock works fine on Win10 - it certainly does for me, but selling it rather than offering it as freeware, unsupported, implies a contract with the buyer for a supported piece of software. Sell it and say in big letters on the sales page "Caveat Emptor, this is a product no longer under development, but we will provide "limited" support for users on Win7/8", might be more honest, or simply offer it for free and let it be. Just be moral about it. I suspect if the APIs for the docklets were let out to fans to play with, you'd get a ton of fixes and development for them, even if OD itself remains undeveloped and unchanged.

The Weather docklet is a useful tool, and one it seems a lot of people like to use, I certainly do, but yep, AlMonty there is right, OD does what it is supposed to do, in a way that is useful, weather docklet or not, and I certainly intend to keep using it until it no longer runs.

I came to Stardock originally when I was forced to switch from SGI Unix to Windoze many moons ago and wanted to at least recreate the GUI from SGI, and with Window Blinds, ObjectDock and other bits, I could, more or less, at least enough for me to feel comfortable in the M$ environment and reduce the emotional shock of leaving a well loved system for a deeply inferior one (at the time). Since moving to Win10 I have dropped most of Object Desktop, mostly because it is a resource hog and I no longer feel the need to live in a false Unix universe, but Object Dock remains and is much appreciated.

Well, I DO think, once you get used to the environment, that Win10 will be a better experience for you. Also, M$ no longer offers active support for win7. Just watch out for the security settings - you can end up telling the world a lot of things you may not wish to tell them.....

End of Gaspershooters's quote

Right pronunciation, wrong spelling - "a" not "o".;)

And not everyone is under-educated or ultra privileged - some of us with Dr. before our names have to count every penny and think twice before buying a cup of coffee. Such is life.

"Okay..firstly lets get rid of all this americentrix bollocks. USA and Canada? East Coast? West Coast? All Bullshit. Twot is an old English word, in use before the American continent was settled. Yes, its just another word for Twat."

Now what?? :ninja:

You been told the answers from Stardock employee, yet, still pursuing the nonsense,I have no regret by saying the that.

Let's all step back a tad.

There is exactly nothing 'wrong' with Object Dock as it was produced/released.

What has changed is the 'weather feed'.

The last time this exact-same thing happened [several years ago] it affected pretty much every GUI addon ever produced that accessed that same feed.  An attempt on their part to retain control on the commercial value of their service.

I imagine it's just the same reason this time.

Blame the feed provider for the loss of accessibility.  Perhaps petition them to restore the connection...;)
