Help with Style Colors?

I can't seem to figure it out

Hi

I have bought several Windowblinds and like a lot of them, the problem I have is that there are some readability issues for example, I can't read some text because it is the same color as the background, like a black background and black text.  I have been able to fix some items but it's just going in the "modify style" and clicking on the item in the menu and hoping it's the item I need changed.  applying desk top, saying a prayer and hoping it changed.  I was able to fix most of the right click menu this way, but some still elude me.  Is there a way that will show what each item means so I can just go in and alter that one font / type or background to what I want it to look like through the modify style option?  this is one I bought, it's super cool I just can't get a couple of things to change, the biggest one driving me crazy right now is the windows 10 task bar hover menu pop up.  I mouse over it and it's a black background and normally it appears with a description I can read of what it is, but I can't, I tried changing every color that is black to something else and it remains the same.  Sorry for the long post, I'm pretty frustrated is all.

Sometimes a post needs to be long to understand. You did your best with that. You situation is not new. With dark skins there are usually some areas with hard to read text. You didn't mention making any changes is SKS (skinstudio) SKS is the place to make them but changing some area from black text is almost impossible.

Here is what I can do for you to try and help. If you want you will need to PM me with your email address. I prefer to work using email. I have a dark skin called Flattened. Nothing fancy pretty plan actually but maybe it can be used for you to explain any problem areas and even send screen shots. So if you are interested I'm here. Here is a simple dark skin of mine but there are also many other nice skins for you to use. https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/windowblinds/8765/

the one I bought is glitch, just need a copule of fixes and I very much appreciate you reaching out.  Do I talk to the person that made it if they are still active?  this is where I am changing the colors to 'fix' my issues, not necessarily fixes but I'd prefer some things looking different.  Aside from writing down what changes when I train one by one is there a better way?  I didn't try skin studio but will try that now.

If you spelled out the skin name correctly (glitch) I can't find it here on WC.

As far as how you are changing the colors I'm not even sure how to get to that window. I can't find it using WB or SKS. so you know as far as I know all us skinners use SKS. I do know that some people do like to change what they can or a couple things using WB. I mentioned email because you could send screenshots. Yes you can show them here but I prefer not to use a thread for a possible many back and fourth exchanges.

Please understand changing text colors unless you are very experienced can be hard. Do something in one area that fixes your situation later to fine out it messed with an area you didn't want to change. I also don't know what window version you are using.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time. I download a Windowblind, (sometimes ones that I have paid for) and there will be font color conflicts. I don't know how many blinds I have loaded where there will be a dark font on a dark background or the opposite with light colors on light backgrounds. People should not have to go into Skinstudio and mess with the color settings to get things right. Skins are suppose to be tested right?
Sometimes colors will be fine on one operating system but not on another and I dual boot windows 7 and 10 so I can easily compare how skins work.

There are lots of examples that I can give but the one that comes to mind is the search bars both on the start panel and explorer. I get a lot that have black font on dark search boxes. I am getting old and on top of that diabetes has taken a toll on my eye site so I cannot read something like that, not to mention small font but that is another rant for another time.

JC. As far as the startmenu search text color. Actually it can be changed on win 10. However on 7 it can't. So on 10 you can use an image that matches the SM. However on 7 a skinner has to make a choice to match a darker skin with a darker image or use a light one that doesn't match well. You know which way that goes. I made a thread on 6/22/18 and mentioned this and asked if it can be looked into for win 7. All I received on the entire thread was the standard reply passing it on to support. Nothing. I even asked if it couldn't be done for that answer. Nothing.

Not quite sure exactly what you mean, but if I've marked the right taskbar piece in this picture, you change it in SkinStudio in the section I've marked up.   Let me know if that gets you there.

I understand but its not only the search box, I have encountered the problem in other places as well. I was just giving an example because even with Windows 10 there is sometimes dark search bar font on dark boxes and I don't understand why it is up to the person who downloads the skin to edit things in skinstudio. I have been told on a couple different occasions by different people that something could not be changed or that they did not know how to change something and I went into skinstudio and figured it out myself, now when someone tells me something cannot be changed I just say OK, and do not bother using or buying the skin.

Ken in your reference about "Skins are suppose to be tested right?" well, we are only human, and so are those that test our skins, mistakes happen, we are not perfect. Now, if they're numerous skins of mine that are having these issues, I can't fix them, if it's not brought to my attention, believe me, I try my best to get everything. |-)  ;P

I am not singling anyone out Don, it happens with everyone and I am not about to take the time to start loading all my blinds to say which ones have issues. Yes everyone is human but maybe there should be at least 3 testers if possible. I openly volunteered a couple years back making it known in the forums that i would be willing to test blinds but no one took me up on it, I am not saying that I am a better tester than anyone else but I am one more tester and I would even be willing to pay for the blind (especially if issues I discovered were fixed) that I am testing, I am not looking for freebies but blinds I purchase I expect to work reasonably well, I just want to be able to see the font, that's all.

Guys, please this skin is great, I just would like to see different colors than the ones it came with like there is a lot of grey but I would rather it be black with the green from the skin used in things like menu's the startbar, etc.  I'm kind of poking around with the change colors and I'm fixing and breaking at the same time because I don't know my targets.  I don't like messing with artists work belive me, I have skinstudio and still can't seem to figure it out.  @davebax I'll try PM, also Don5318 thanks for helping pointing to the skin I'm talking about.

Will see if I can help from telling me the location. Not paying $10 for a skin anyone makes.

People seem to like dark skins better so we all try to throw a few in. Text is always a problem with dark images. Make every image dark and all the text White and let me know how that works out for anyone.

If a situation of text comes up it may not be able to be fixed with a text change. Now a lighter image will work. Start putting lighter images in certain locations then people will bitch about that and why isn't it dark. I't not as easy to just change a text color as wanted in some areas.

If asked and the person who made the skin doesn't have an answer I think there is a return policy within a certain time. Not a 100% sure however but know I have heard it happen in the past. just don't know if it was an easy task or hard one to get the money back.

Wonder how many people would want a dark startmenu with a White search area and also in the frame. My guess is not many if any. Best solution is lets get another 6 or more people to start and make a WindowBlind. That is the best possible way too see how hard it actually is to make a totally perfect WB.

"stetsis" you did nothing wrong but ask a question. Just seems anytime a text color question is asked it comes down to the skinner not knowing what they are doing. Last, if SKS was ever revised many of these situations would not happen. However SKS is what it is and for the most part works fine once you figure it out.

Dave, if you were implying that I was bitching (not saying you were) than I guess I can admit that I was bitching a little. I also understand that there can be difficulties in making a blind 100% usable, I am not even talking about perfect.
I think the big issue is with the color of the skins themselves. If someone makes a skin with a unique color (usually a dark color) then they have to start making all sorts of images and colors to match the skin and that is when things can go wrong. That being said I have downloaded several dark skins including some of yours that have had no color issues so I know it can be done. I also know that I have been told before by skinners that something could not be changed but I went into skinstudio and made the changes, not because I am better then the creator of the blind, (I am not), but because I am stubborn and if something bugs me I will spend hours trying to figure something out.

Actually, I am hesitate at first to write anything with regard with dark theme master skin. But since I was just recently released my dark master skin, I feel somehow, I need to say something.

1st. If anyone have any problem with any of my skin, please let me know. I would love to work with anybody to solve it within reasonable request.

2nd. As a designer of Windowblinds, I can only speak for myself, after 18+ years of it, I still find new things in Skinstudios. Sometimes rediscovering how to do things. So I am not surprise, if someone else can figure out how to do it while someone else said it can't be done.

3rd. err... I forget, never mind.

Take care everyone. Its way pass my bed time.

You and I both. I by accident found not long ago about the SM search text color text. Of course it only works for win 10.

No not really. What I do think however is when you find a text you can't see but know how to change it. first and yes it's not your job. But I would let the person that made it know about it. I know I would want to know. If you are brushed off nothing you can do. I think the few people actually making WB's are open people.

In fact I think it would be a good idea to point out to everyone when a very hard location to read text was available to see. Let me put it this way. You can point out and/or contact me anytime you see a situation.

Also a lot of the text problems with dark skins are the backgrounds. Images and color. Some areas it's much easier to make the BG lighter then mess with the text as messing with the text may also change an area color you really don't want to change. So if I want to leave the text Black I just make the BG lighter. I also enjoy reading text when possible.

I think there are like 8 people making WB's now. Was 7 but thank goodness Z71 started to make and upload his great skins again after time off. So there is still choice available for all.

We need to stay together and enjoy what we still have left. Think you all will agree with that.

Yup, but its not like I have been silent, I have made suggestions and pointed things out before.
Anyway, I guess I need to shut up now, I am sure I pissed a few people off enough and I have kind of hijacked this thread.

No I don't think anyone is pissed. As far as a hijack. Also not really as I'm working with this person another way.

A lot of what was said is actually good think about statements.
