Installing Fences on new machine

My old machine, where I had fences installed, crashed a while back and I had to get a new machine.

Fences will not install on the new machine. It says I have to upload this certain file with this url. But the url goes to the homepage of a game store.

How do I install fences on this new machine?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

You might be trying to install an older version of fences and maybe from Inpulse ? and need to update to latest version

if so go here scroll to bottom to upgrade from 2 to 3 https://www.stardock.com/products/fences/download

The other machine had xp pro on it, and I bought fences a number of years ago (this new machine is win 7 pro). The button to download my version on my 'products owned' page said 'vintage' or 'legacy' or something like that, and the file they had me d/l was 'fencespro110_setup'.

Are you saying it is not possible to install this version on this machine and I must upgrade? I was perfectly happy with the old version and don't need any new features. Can I just upload here the file they wanted me to upload on that defunct url (885.txt)? That seems to be what is lacking for this version.

Oh, and no, I bought it directly from Stardock.

Is the page that you need to use

That did it, thank you!

After I figured out that the C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Fences was hardcoded, rather than where the program actually was, it worked fine.

Thank you! Fences is one of my favorite utils and I have it back! Happy camper.

Also have a new PC. I was able to install Fences and have activated it. Now I want to install my old PC Fences Backup on the new PC but the directory that is referred to is not available on my new laptop? Info I found on the web is to copy the backup to: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\Backups  , but my new laptop has no AppData under C:\\Users\USERNAME\ ??

Please help to install my old Fences configuration/setup to my new laptop. Br. Paul

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Most probably because your AppData folder is hidden. Please unhide it. There are few guide on how to do it on the net.

Let us know if you still need assistance.

Thanks

Indeed, I was able to unhide this directory. Copied the Backup and all Fences were back, though no icons! Also had to copy the Windows Desktop to the new PC. Now all works, great. Thx for the help. Br. Paul
