Docs saved to the Desktop go to the wrong screen

Whenever I download a file from a browser, or just save a document to the desktop, the icon always shows up on my secondary monitor. Not the primary. So I'm constantly having to minimize windows on my second monitor in order to click & drag the icon to the primary monitor. I'd like to not keep any icons on the second monitor.

The problem goes away when I disable Fences. Is there a way to fix this?

Mine does the same thing. I just save all my files to the download folder.

Hello,

You can always send all new documents, downloads, programs, Music etc, to a fence and place that fence on your primary display by using Fences Organize rules.

Here some simple step

1) Create a new Fence : Name it.

2) Click on that fence Three line menu -> organize -> Manage sorting rules -> Fences Rules Windows open up and choose what you want to auto send to that fence. From there every time a file send to desktop will be auto send to that fence.

Thank you,

Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm a longtime Fences user, with a dual screen setup. On my previous Win 10 laptop (lid close, display only on two 27" monitors) anything saved from my browser (Firefox) downloads to the desktop. Same for when I save a document (Word, Excel, Illustrator...whatever). Previously, these all saved to the middle of screen 1 and it was great. I just got a new Win 10 laptop, installed Fences again, and have the exact same setup as before on my older PC. Now, all docs and download that go to the desktop go to Screen 2. Or "90%" on screen 2, with just a hint of the icon on screen 1 (see attached screenshot). Both PCs were set up the same way and I can't make the downloaded/saved icons go completely on screen 1. Any suggestions?saved icons on screen 2

mshannonclarke,

I had a similar problem as you for a while.  What I did was open the Fences Configuration screen, then Sorting and Organizing.  The first "By Default" I set it so that 'All new Icons go to...' a newly created Fence that I called Diverse.  After that anything I save to the desktop ends up in that Fence and can then be sorted to where ever you want it to be.

Hopefully that will help with your problem as well.

I have that problem too. All the saved files go to the second screen. I did add another fence, but I didn't like it. The strange thing that's happening now is when I save a lot of files they all pile on top of each other. So I might have to add a fence.

Thanks for the tip. I did a new fence on screen 1 desktop called "downloads" and it does indeed work. obviously I'd rather the downloads work properly without a special fence, but this is a decent workaround until we can figure out what's causing it.

Hello,

I believe, Sean has mentioned somewhere before that the issue is known, able to be reproduce internally, and would be look into.

I've found a fix.

Open fence's options, then click the "Sorting / organizing" button on the left.

At the top you'll see "by default, all new icons go to the general desktop"

Change that to anything else, then back to the general desktop.

That should fix it.

I have had this problem for a while as well, been combing over the internet for a solution as I was assuming it was a Windows 10 issue and since I have an capture card and my display is:  1|2  3

I thought it was throwing it off, but then I did a search for fences and and looking at the above screen shot, I have the exact same problem with dual monitors.

Is there a fix or a work around?

The only one I've found is what I posted in #6 above. I made a new fence on the proper desktop (left, or number 1 of my dual monitors) called "downloads." When you right click the title bar of the new fence, choose "organize" and "place all new icons in this fence by default" and then all downloads go there. It's a workaround, but I'm used to it by now.

Stardock, please fix this long-standing issue.  It has bothered so many end-users with multiple monitors. So disappointed with the software.

Never had the issue prior to the latest update (3.1.0.5).

Had to create a special fence for all the "save to desktop" stuff. This workaround works but I don't like it.X(

Really hope there will be a fix.

From what I know the crash issues is resolved. As mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/505007/get;3806834. The Dev also mentioned to have a fix for Wallpaper Engine and currently testing it. Your patience is highly appreciated.

It looks like Object Desktop is required in order to get the beta, correct?

From what I read, if you purchase individual license for fence you should be able to download from your account as mentioned in the first post. https://forums.stardock.com/506115/

Individual purchases (as well as Object Desktop Members) can also be obtained from your account page:
