Update Needed; Yes or No

I am using Fences 3.0.9.11    About three times a day a message pops up advising that I need to update Fences.

If I go to the ABOUT feature on the Fences program, and check for updates, it states that I am current.    So, if I am current, how do I tell Fences to quit pestering me to download something I don't need

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Two Solutions.

1) Try the purge and reinstall steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

reboot and retest.

Or

2) Disable fences update check : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#disableupdate

Thanks

Disabling the update check is not working on my system.

I have confirmed that the correct key was created and is visible in my registry, and have rebooted several times after running that batch file.

I still get an update popup every few hours (To the point that I stopped closing it and just dragged it off screen.)

In case my last message was unclear in some way:  I already attempted to follow the procedure outlined in your link.

I also opened the batch file provided (UpgradeCheck.bat), read it, and then verified that the change it is supposed to make was applied correctly.

There is a DWROD key located at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Settings\SuppressAutoUpdate" containing the value "1"

Fences version 3.0.8.1 ignores that key, and continues to pop up update notifications on a frustratingly regular basis.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Did you do the purge and reinstall noted in a prior response?

Having posted my original request ten days ago, I wasted no time in Disabling the Update utility.   Since then, I have not been bothered by repeat requests.   I figure that the problem will be corrected in a future update and will re-enable the update utility in a few months.

I appreciate the advice and at least knowing I am not alone in this predicament.

I have the same issue, actually having to download a .bat to make the update screen go away because there's no "disable automatic update check" option in the menus is... disturbing.

I'm hopeful that such an advance feature can be implemented in the next update. I think the feature will be enough to make it a major version release, Fences 4.0 > Fences 3 but now you can disable update checks.
