Tourism Shock

I finally came around to buying and playing my first game of Intrigue. First of all I am surprised that mods still work, because I think I read somewhere they wouldn't. So I'm not entirely sure that my experience with Tourism is comparable with other's (but I strongly suppose it is ...)

My economy in this first new game struggled a bit, around turn 50, shortly after colonizing my fourth planet, I reached -15 bc per turn. But then my first Port of Call on my home planet was completed, and I thought I couldn't believe my eyes: my income went straight from -15 to +820 bc per turn! And now, only a couple of turns later it's at +1330 bc per turn!

I can see how it is calculated (520 controlled parsecs, 341 capital parsecs which are counted twice, then 500% + another 25% because of aquatic trait = 625% from those 861 parsecs, and then applying tax of 25% gives the tourism part of my income).

While I appreciate the new approach to give influence and tourism more meaning, I consider the resulting numbers as too big. If it stays like that economy is no fun anymore because you have to do nothing at all o become rich ;)

I think SD just made a mistake with the decimal places and the Port of Call was meant to give not 500% but 5% income per parsec according to the algorithm above. In my case the tourism income would then just offset my otherwise negative income to result in a slight plus what would be a lot more plausible to me.

Port of Call doesn't give a 500% bonus. You must have an old save or a mod that is giving it that.

Ok, thanks, I'll check that as soon as I can and report back.

You are right, I forgot that I modded my game a long time ago to give tourism a little boost by applying a flat bonus of 5 to the Port of Call.

I will start a new game without mods to get accustomed to all changes.

Any mods using GalCiv3GlobalDefs.xml and are not specificly built for intrigue (or 3.0+) will mess tourism right up. (theres some new bell curve chart for tourism been added to it).

Good to know, perhaps I have to look into that if Tourism in the unmodded game still doesn't feel right to me ;)
