Start 10 search finds email but they can't be opened

One of the mail reasons I like Start 10 is that it brings back the old (and so useful) search function.  So I can search files on my local machine and my email, and NOT search the entire web.

Email search finds relevant emails, but if I click on an email link to open it, a box pops up that says mapi16://...long string...  No such interface supported

Start 10 on Windows 10 Pro with Office 365 Outlook, all up-to-date except the most recent April 30, 2018 major Windows update not installed.

I used to use Start 10 on another PC and everything worked fine, but with Office 2010.  Converted to Surface Pro and tried using it without Start 10.  Recently installed Start 10 and it works as expected except for this.

Outlook has an Exchange account and several POP accounts.  It is not possible to open search results from the Exchange account or from any POP account.

Any ideas anyone?  This really takes a lot away from the usefulness of the search function.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Did some search on your problem and from my understanding its Windows 10 search not reporting the email link properly. My personal understanding of it is that, Start10 does not have its own search engine, it uses the Windows 10 search, and just represent it in a better way, Windows 7 way. So, if Windows 10 reporting the search incorrectly, Start10 will just represent that. Here a link which I understand that users have problem with email search on Windows 10.

Personally, I never user the email search function on Start10 since I never need to use Outlook for my emails. Someone with in-depth knowledge on Start10 and Outlook might come along and share some thought.

Thanks for the update.  It appears to be a bug in Microsoft search.  It used to work great with Outlook 2010.  Outlook itself has it's own search but in fact that search is less functional than the system built-in indexing.  It was very handy to have emails and files that match a query both be available.

The main reason I installed Start10 was because Windows 10 destroyed the search function under Start.  It wants to do some kind of Cortana search of the entire Internet.  If I want to search the Web I will do that.  If I want to search MY stuff (documents and emails) then I want that.  Start10 gives it back to me in an easy-to-access form.  It's still useful to find documents.  If you can find some way to make email links work again that would be awesome, but it may be it's an underlying system indexing bug you don't control.  Thanks for trying.
